Scan at 7weeks 3 days - baby measuring at 6mm

Hello,
Today I went to my first scan at my fertility clinic where I had IUI. I am 7 weeks and 3 days pregnant. I was told that the baby has a heartbeat but is currently only measuring at 6mm which is still within range but at the bottom end of the range. They've asked us to go back in 2 weeks to see if the baby has grown at all. Has anyone been through this and can you tell me your outcome? I know we won't know until in two weeks. I'm trying not to over worry.
Thank you in advance .. x

Hi, yes I had a similar situation after IVF although my scan was at 6+6 with the NHS due to suspected ectopic (I had been bleeding since before my period was even due).

The baby had a heartbeat but was measuring small (4mm IIRC) which they said was within normal range but sadly on my follow up private scan with the clinic there was no longer any heartbeat.

Having said that, I believe that once you have seen a heartbeat the chances of a successful pregnancy are more than 90% so try to stay positive 🤞🏼

@LondonUnited Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry to hear about your experience. They said the fact there's a heartbeat is positive. It's difficult not to worry. Trying to stay optimistic but can't help feeling a little concerned. x

My clinic said having a successful implantation was actually a good thing as it showed I could get pregnant from the process. They were right, I then had a frozen cycle which resulted in my DD! Crossing everything for you.

@LondonUnited That's excellent..! I'm really pleased for you. We have been having IUI. I was pregnant last year and miscarried. We've had several more since and then finally got pregnant again this time. Hopefully this we will also have a positive outcome. Thank you for your reassurance. x

I had a scan at what I thought was 7+1, told baby measuring about 5+6 at 3.2 mm, with a barely discernable heartbeat. The clinic wasn't concerned as I have irregular cycles and just wasn't as far along, but I really felt there was something wrong. Six days later baby had grown to 8.8, good strong heartbeat and confirmed as a viable pregnancy. I appreciate with iui things dates are more certain in your case but apparently there's a big margin for error in measurement in very early pregnancy, Wishing you all the best

Had a scan at exactly 7 weeks at my local EPAU and was told baby was 4.8 mm and around 5++ weeks( which was impossible).

Turns out at the dating scan that baby is on track with my dates. I'm 30 weeks now.

Early scan can be tricky in measuring accurately the baby as we're talking about millimetres.

It's great you saw baby and heartbeat and all looks fine. I'm pretty sure in 2 weeks your baby will be bigger. The case of miscarriage drops a lot when you see a heartbeat.

@Sulkypatsy @R2D2abc
Thank you so much for your positive stories. And I'm so glad it's worked out for you both. I really do hope this is the case for us. I understand there can be inaccuracies because it is just millimetres and both midwives were having difficulty measuring and it took them a while. They said to prepare that it might not be a viable pregnancy but felt positive that there was a heartbeat. x

I just wanted to update as I didn't want to leave the thread incomplete. Today I went for my scan. They told me that at my last scan 2 weeks ago, the baby actually measured 3.6mm (not 6mm like they told me) so I was measuring at 5weeks pregnant when I was 7weeks and 3days. The good news is the baby has grown (is now 16mm) and still has a strong heartbeat. The baby is measuring 1 week behind so this could be because it implanted late. So although I'm 9weeks 3days, the baby is measuring 8weeks and 1day but all looks fine. So all seems ok right now, and we are delighted although still in shock as we wasn't expecting good news..! Thank you for your messages and support on this post. X
