Sorry if it's TMI but since last night I've had mucusy stool with red blood in it. I had some pain in my left side for a couple of days too. Is this common during pregnancy or should I get checked out?

It's not normal for pregnancy. I have had the same symptoms and more than have got much worse over time. Im being tested for Crohn's, ulcerative colitis and more. Im 20 weeks pg and left it months before seeking medical attention because I assumed it was a weird pg symptom. Wish I got it checked sooner because I wouldn't be suffering so much now. Please go to your GP asap Flowers

How far along are you?
Piles can be quite common in pregnancy and cause bleeding when you go to the toilet. However, I think blood in stools is always worth getting checked out, especially with the pain you are experiencing.

I'm 18+4.

Is the red bright red? I had that with piles during pregnancy.

erised · 21/02/2020 11:31

Yes, it's bright red.

I had some blood in my stool earlier on, accompanied by some mucous and itchiness, it went after a week or so so I put it down to piles. But if you are concerned get checked out anyway!

I had piles during my pregnancy which caused bright red bleeding with mucus. Get an examination with a GP just to rule it out

My stomach is also very loud! Making lots of loud grumbles.

Hi erised - the combination of blood, mucus and left sided pain means you need to see a doctor to rule out inflammatory bowel disease (eg Crohns/ulcerative colitis) as PP said.

Hopefully it’s just haemorrhoids, but you definitely need to get checked (I’m a doctor in real life and would want to see you if you were my patient)
