Is anyone else practicing hypnobirthing? I am and would love to hear some positive stories about it or birth experiences

I wanted to but sessions seem quite expensive. I wonder if there's a good book?

I've read Hollie De Cruz book your body your birth, and listened to the mp3s, but I'm 39 weeks and haven't had a chance to put into practice yet! The book has positive birth stories too

I did a course and found it really helpful, listened to the affirmations a lot before I went to bed as I drifted off. Helped me stay calm and "breathe" the baby out. I also found pregnancy yoga really helpful and think my labour was great with both my children due to a combination of doing both. I didn't have any meds and no gas & air. Good luck 🤞🏼

I listened to hypnobirthing playlists and podcasts first time round (all free) and found it really helped me get in the mindset of "your body is designed to do this" "it's not a medical procedure". I had a great labour and delivery. Went into hospital at 7cm, got straight in the pool and had my daughter in the water about 3 hours later. No screaming, tears or drama... was as relaxed as it could possibly be and I really think having the right mindset helped.

Currently 35 weeks and hoping for the same again :)

I used some videos from Suzy Ashworth at the calm birthing school. I don't have the money for a course but found that just remembering the breathing and counting really helped. I don't really go for all the 'natural birth' stuff as I knew sometimes medical intervention has to happen (and as it happened I ended up needed an emergency caesarean) But the breathing and focusing and my husband knowing the breathing and focusing really helped.

No screaming for me just like previous posters... and my birth did take a bit of time. I was absolutely fine though :)

Yes - a rather boring birth only made entertaining by persuading the midwifes that I was in labour.

Can you check to see if I’m close?
No - you’re nowhere near yet
No really - can you have a look
It will be a while yet - get some rest
Humour me will you?
Oh alright - I CAN SEE THE HEAD!!!
Told ya...

Yes, it was long (27 hours) and I believe that the hypnobirthing techniques (amongst other things) helped me to relax between contractions so I didn’t get as tired as I might have done. I arrived at hospital fully dilated, straight into birth pool, very straightforward delivery - but much of that part was luck and the hypnobirthing relaxation techniques may well have been helpful for remaining calm during interventions etc. I used the positive birth company digital pack

I did the positive birthing company course. Usually £40 but they do go on sale at certain points so I got it for £5. Even better than that was reading Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin. Loads of positive birth stories and written by an amazing midwife.

There are positive birthing affirmations on YouTube, loads of books and lots of positive videos so not sure the face to face course is necessary if you work at it. Search “positive birth video” on YouTube and there are some beautiful videos. Do not watch One Born Every Minute which is just a compilation of dramatic births, further dramatised by editing to make good TV...and scare the shit out of women!

I used the Maggie Howell Effective birth preparation/hypnobirthing book and CD
I’ve recommended to lots of people- I felt in control able to deal with the labour without pain relief. Was lucky to have 2 straight forward short labours, both times midwives thought I was in early labour on arrival at the MLU when I was within a couple of hours of delivery

I absolutely love these stories, thank you!

I’m doing the positive birth company online course and it’s great so far
