I'm 5 weeks pregnant and I've just had a terrible sinus infection which I ended up having to get treat with Erythromycin. The doctor said it was fine, I have no idea why she didn't give me Penicillin. I've finished the 5 day course of 250mgs 4 times a day. But today the British Medical journal released a study saying its not that safe to take and in a study of 8000 women 182 ended up with birth defects. I'm so worried and upset that this has happened. Yes my sinus infection is clear which I'm pleased about but to read this study is so upsetting. It was on the front page of the daily telegraph as well. Any reassurance? I know there's not much that can be said really.

I took amoxicillin for a sinus infection at 11 weeks (it didn’t even help much tbh), and my baby doesn’t have any obvious abnormalities if it helps? I’m sure you’ll be fine and your doctor wouldn’t have prescribed anything unsuitable, try not to worry too much.

Yeh thank you. The study that was published today, compares erythromycin to penicillin and that penicillin is so much safer. Confused I don't understand why she gave me the erythromycin. Thank you though, I know I shouldn't worry. There's not much I can do
