Do I need a carry cot?

Hi all

FTM here so please don’t be too brutal with me 😂

We are thinking of buying the Silver Cross Pursuit which is a pushchair suitable from birth. It doesn’t have a carrycot but lies flat and then I believe it converts once baby is big enough to sit up.

Honest opinions - did you use your carry cot loads? Will I wish I’d got one? Has anyone had this pram or similar?

Thank you 😊

That looks like a really good hybrid!

We have a Vista (now on baby #2) and the only big benefit to the carrycot on ours is that its approved for overnight sleeping so really useful when on holiday/visiting family as we didn't need a separate travel cot. Other than that, i can't see much benefit.

Used my carrycot less than 5 times, mainly had car seat attached I the pram.

My baby used the carry cot for the first 2 weeks then would scream whenever he was in it so we used a sling until he was 4 months then converted the carry cot to a rear facing seat unit which he much preferred. So we wasted a lot of money buying a pram with a carrycot as the sling was only £30 and he loved it.

If it lies flat and is suitable from birth, you don’t need a carrycot.

I have the Bugaboo Cameleon which does need the carrycot for newborn stage. Stopped using it when DS was about four or five months old.

We used the carry cot every day - he slept in it downstairs and was much happier in there than in the car seat.

We never bought one, didn't have the space! We just removed ds from his carseat or pushchair every 30 mins or so!

He is absolutely perfect now at 5

If it costs extra money I wouldn't buy it as you might find you'll rarely use it.

It comes with a baby nest, which makes it lovely and cosy. When I had dd who is now 7 the pushchair I had lay totally flat like that and had a similar insert.

Hi i use my carry cot part every day use it downstairs and im out walking alot i have a bugaboo .my baby is 15wks and wants to sit up mordm im thinking of using the buggy part in the next month or so.
if its going to cost extra id say no dont get it,the pram you are getting looks flat enough.
My health visitor said use the buggy part as long as the staps fit your baby so see if the straps go to a size to fit a newborn for safety.

My Uppababy Cruz was perfect. We used the carrycot fir DD to sleep in instead of a Moses basket until she was old enough to go in her cot at 6mo.

Babies also shouldn’t be in a car seat for too long.

WhenTwoBecomeThree · 19/02/2020 15:11

We use the carrycot every day as DD lays in it in the living room and it's safe for overnight sleeping, we had to put it in the next to me crib too for her to sleep in as the crib was too big for her and she didn't sleep in it when she was newbirn but it came as a bundle with the pram. See how you go if it costs extra and then you could always buy it after if you feel you need it?

Hi OP- we've got the Quinny Moodd which has a nice size carrycot. Tbh we didn't use it much for DS1, but am prepping now for DS2 and do intend to use it much more this time as our lie flat pushchair setting is a bit clunky... (we tended to use the car seat for short trips to the shops etc. last time but with the changes in time limits etc. don't feel as comfortable). As someone else said, might be worth checking if you can add on later xx

We had the silver cross pioneer and used the carrycot all the time until ds reached the recommended pushchair age of 6 months.

zaffa · 19/02/2020 15:44

I use the carrycot constantly. DD sleeps in it downstairs for naps, I can wheel her around the house so she's never alone (only 11 weeks). our car seat is lie flat and doesn't clip onto the pram (so is the equivalent of a carry cot) but I understand that conventional ones haves time limit of 20 mins for a newborn to six weeks and then max two hours.

I can not recommend the carrycot enough - my only recommend is to heck it fits in your boot - our pram doesn't fit in my tiny boot and I have to put the carrycot in the boot and the chassis in the front seat and only the lie flat seat in the back - so really when I have the pram only DD and I are going anywhere.
