8 week dating scan

Hi all, this is my first post but I’ve been reading lots on Mumsnet and found it really supportive and useful .

I’m 7+2 days pregnant and I’ve been sent my appointment date for my dating scan which is when I’m 8 weeks 2 days. Is this too early?
I’ve been reading on the NHS website and it says that they can only test for Down syndrome etc after 11 weeks, has anyone ever been for a scan as early as 8 weeks then had to go back for another one for the tests.

I told the midwife at my booking appointment that I’d had two miscarriages previously, both at 4.5 weeks so not sure if the scan is early cause of this as she didn’t say she was going to do that.

Your dating scan needs to be later than that. If it's the actual scan it needs to be later- ring and ask whether it's a supplementary scan or the actual dating scan. If the latter, you should let them know that you'd be 8 weeks at that point.

It could be an extra scan because of the previous MC?

It shouldn't be your dating scan as it wouldn't be accurate that early on. That one should be between 11 and 14 weeks and they do the screening at the same time.

I had an early scan at 8+2 and my dating scan at 13+6....I was nearly a week ahead at my dating scan than I'd measured at the 8 week one so it's really not accurate that early on

Thanks both - I’ll give them a ring, bit nervous so it would be good to get an idea of why I’m going. To be honest if it’s an extra scan I will appreciate it seeing as I’ve been worrying after last time. The miscarriage was December then I’ve become pregnant again in Jan which I’m really pleased about but a bit on edge!
