Pregnant Or Not Pregnant?

Wondering if anyone who has had a similar experience, or has a better understanding can shed some light for me please!

Tested positive over the weekend (strong positives, as dark as control line!) went to docs and they sent me for an early scan to date pregnancy, as we couldn't figure it out.
Hospital couldn't see anything on scan (internal) they done 2 more tests while I was there, both strong positive again. Was sent for blood work, and have to go back in a couple of days for more bloods.

So .... am I pregnant? Am I not pregnant? Is it too early? Has the baby gone? Was it ever there?
Partner and I are at a total loss for answers at this point and just kinda stuck in a state of limbo.

Why did the doctor send you for an early scan?

TakingOneForTheTeam · 18/02/2020 20:26

@Babyfg because I had a period recently, so I didn't think I was pregnant, they said I still could be, even with a period happening.
So couldn't figure out dates, and they wanted to see if it was a period and not a sinister bleed I suppose?

You often can’t see much on a scan in the first two weeks. You’ll need to see if your hcg numbers double to know.

Babyfg · 18/02/2020 21:15

The baby would be very small to see anything. If you tested positive and the hospital tested positive I'd say you are. Have they tested your hcg?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 18/02/2020 21:19

How far along would you be?

cookielove · 18/02/2020 21:22

You are probably waaaay to early to see anything!

misstilly · 18/02/2020 21:33

Hi I had the same 2 years ago and not to worry you it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy which resulted in surgery to remove my fallopian tube and the pregnancy. If you have any pain or bleeding please go to the hospital straight away and get checked out

Polly99 · 19/02/2020 07:32

I think this is probably a suspected ectopic pregnancy. It's a similar story to my first one (negative test, what I thought was a period, positive test).

They will be able to confirm from your HCG levels whether the pregnancy is developing normally (if they roughly double every couple of days), and once they hit a particular level if they still can't see the pregnancy in the uterus the assumption will be that it is ectopic.

Try not to worry too much. I know this is a stressful time, but the docs will monitor you now.

Nowayorhighway · 19/02/2020 09:22

You can’t see a thing on scans until 6 weeks. I had an internal private scan (so better equipment than NHS) at 5+6 and she struggled to find anything, all we could see was a tiny flickering full stop sized dot.

TakingOneForTheTeam · 19/02/2020 10:04

I have a second blood test today to check hcg levels so will hopefully will know a little more after today.
Just been a tricky couple of days trying to piece it all together! Thanks for all the advice and comments though, it's nice to have a vague idea of what could potentially be going on!

Still no news on wether baby is there or not. Havent got second blood results back (no one was answering the phone at the unit) but still getting strong positives.
Guess will chase results tomorrow and shed some light on the situation!

So my HCG levels increased but didn't double. Another blood test needs to be done. So still no closer to knowing

When are they repeating your bloods? Mine increased by the required % to indicate normal pregnancy but we're very low. I was the only one convinced it was ectopic as I had no other risk factors the doctors didn't think it was. Hopefully you can get it all sorted quickly.

Mammyloveswine · 22/02/2020 14:22

I had a scan at 5 weeks 5 days and the sonographer could only just make out a fetal pole..

It's very early on, I'm surprised by the scan tbh! Very unusual!

How long ago was the bleed?

TakingOneForTheTeam · 23/02/2020 18:36

Had bloods redone Wednesday and they had risen but not much. Had bloods redone again on Friday. Get results tomorrow. Was spot bleeding previous Thursday and it was happening every day. Since this weekend, have been bleeding very heavily. Regularly changing pads. But no pain yet. I have experienced a miscarriage before, but this doesn't feel the same. Though I'm sure this pregnancy won't progress, sadly. Guess I'll wait and see what they say in the morning.

Got everything x

misstilly · 28/02/2020 21:48

Hope they have figured out what's happening and you are ok.

denbyellie · 28/02/2020 22:54

Your hcg levels have to be at a certain number for them to be able to see anything might be to early xx

TakingOneForTheTeam · 01/03/2020 08:29

They didn't really figure out why things weren't going so well.
Unfortunately, things didn't end too well. I guess it's just one of those things Sad
