Hello Ladies,

So sorry I don't have a mum who I can ask about these things. But had a positive pregnancy test last week but will only me at like 4 weeks (testing because we've been trying) and I don't k ow what to do next, when should I call the doctors for a referral?

Any advice would be helpful x

Congratulations!! I rang my GP who gave me the number for the midwife to get booked in for my booking appointment. I think when you see the midwife varies depending on where you are but it should definitely be before you are 10 weeks. I’m seeing mine on Wednesday at 6weeks and 5days, which I think is quite early - from what I hear it’s usually closer to 8 weeks.

Hey! Im in the same boat as you my first child n my mum isn't here to ask all my questions to ☹️ anyway it's entirely up to you and how you feel. I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant and found out at 4 weeks. I left it a week n half as had a mis carriage in November so wanted to be a little more cautious this time but I rung them and they were fine jus booked me in for midwife when I was 8 weeks I'm goin on Wednesday 😊

They're are no easy to find our clear instructions are there! As the above people have said find out from your gp the number to call for the midwife and you'll have a boring booking in appt at about 8 weeks. Then you will have nothing until the 12 scan.

Finding out you're pregnant is reallyy anticlimactic. After the excitement of your BFP nothing much happens. The booking in appt is just a bunch of questions and then it's more waiting.

Just know that if you experience any aches and pains in your tummy that is perfectly normal (teddy should be quite short and sharp, maybe frequent, like period pain.) Nothing to worry about unless there is red blood with clots.

Your belly will turn to jelly. Not everyone has morning sickness but it might not turn up till later.

Try not to worry overmuch, be excited. Congrats!

Thanks @SkyBlue20 that's really helpful. I'll call the GO and see that they say then.
So sorry to hear @Nicalo2019 it's horrible isn't it. I knew this time would come eventually but just have to google everytime or use mumsnet and to be honest everyone on here is so great.its my first and my fear is having a miscarriage but I'm trying to stay as positive as I can. So sorry to hear that you went through that but good luck Wednesday! Let me know how it goes so I know why to expect 😂

@fonxey thanks that was really helpful! It's crazy never been more aware of every little twinge. And I keep getting little waves of nausea which I'm sure will pick up.

@27andcounting thanks I will let you know. Its the one thing I can't seem to find an answer for what happens at 1st midwife appointment as Google says one thing then my sister in law says totally different so will let you know!

Im suffering massively with sickness I'm not actual being sick just the awful feeling in my stomach. All I am eating is biscuits and chocolate as fruit and veg just wont go down at the minute!

It's the hardest thing not having mum here, it's only been a year n half since she died and I think im really grieving now because I want her here so much to enjoy this, not going to get any easier ☹️

27andcounting · 16/02/2020 21:46

@Nicalo2019 yeah I keep trying to find information but can't!

Oh dear thankfully I've just been getting little waves but I suffered a lot with acid reflux so I'm sure it will come soon, hopefully not but I can tell it's getting a bit worse.

Mine will be 2 years in April (just after my possible 12 weeks) so I absolutely understand it's so difficult and I ya e a bit family and sister in laws keeps talking about how she was with them during their pregnancies (they don't know yet but do know I was trying) and it's actually making it worse than better because it's like rubbing in what I'm missing out on.

At your first appt they are just asking you questions about your medical history etc. If you smoke, how much of at all you drink, family medical history to find out if there are any potential genetic risks. They will ask about your nationality possibly because certain nationalities come with increased proneness to certain diseases.

They may also ask if you are being abused. They didn't ask me at mine as i took the oh with me. He doesn't need to be there but it's exciting as it's your first appt so wanted to go together. I was asked a couple of times at subsequent appointments.

They'll give you some info about what to eat/not to eat but don't get too paranoid about it.

They might take blood there and then and ask you for a urine sample or they might tell you to book yourself a blood test where they will take about a gallon off you.

That's what i can remember. You get given a little pack of information and phone numbers. Then you just wait fur your 12 week scan appt letter.

Nicalo2019 · 17/02/2020 19:13

@21andcounting Ye I know what yu mean it is hard, specially seeing pictures of her with them 2 I know I will never have that. the weird thing is the date I am due (according to the apps) will be the day after the 2 year anniversary of it in September ☹️

I will let you know how I get on Wednesday.

Not felt too bad today I'm hoping I am coming out of the sickness bit now, they say it is worse between 6-8 weeks as that is when the brain n organs start to develop. That's what I read anyway!

27andcounting · 20/02/2020 19:31

@fonxey thanks that's really helpful! I'm booked I. For the 17th March and have booked an early scan for the 5th March to put my mind at rest before the 12 week scan.

@Nicalo2019 how did you appointment go? My sickness is starting to get to me at work and I'm so overly emotional at the moment which is horrible just making me feel so stressed at work plus we're short staffed anyways struggling to cope at the moment 😩
