milk - and lots of it - and cold

I sympathise - I had this throughout the whole of my pg - went the minute DD was born

puffylovett · 03/09/2007 21:34

drink lots of water

DumbledoresGirl · 03/09/2007 21:35

Sleep upright on as many pillows as you can find.

Drink some milk.

Sympathies. I had terrible heartburn with 4 pregnancies and not even gaviscon really made any difference. Milk certainly didn't. I slept on one of those enormous bean bag cushions.

MerlinsBeard · 03/09/2007 21:35

cold milk drunk slowly, sit upright

weebleswobble · 03/09/2007 21:35

I hate milk, so ice cream is my heartburn remedy, and a lot more enjoyable than Gaviscon

Gingerbear · 03/09/2007 21:39

Oh JARM, you have my sympathy - I had terrible heatburn for both my pregnancies.
Off-licences sell Rennies - these were my standby in case of lack of gaviscon (get industrial sized bottle on prescription for free from doc tomorrow!)
Get DH out to an offie pronto!!

Gingerbear · 03/09/2007 21:40

Actually, according to my homeopath milk doesn't work at all. It feels like it should but NOOOOOOOO!

You treat like with like.
So - a spoonful of lemon juice is best; apparently.

JARM · 03/09/2007 21:46

ewwwww thomcat, you are teasing me surely???

lemon juice? honestly? does it work?

is the milk thing because it is cooling do you think?

DumbledoresGirl · 03/09/2007 21:48

Milk is supposed to line the stomach and neutralise the acid isn't it? I have to say, it never seemed to work for me so I could believe thomcat's homeopath, but I don't think I could have been induced to try lemon juice!

Would bicarbonate of soda be wrong?

thomcat · 03/09/2007 21:49

I spoke to a proper fully qualified homeopath and she said lemon juice.
Also had this confirmed by my mate who used to work as an assistant to a chemist and just knows stuff!

JARM · 03/09/2007 21:50

ill give it half an hour and then try it and see..... will report back!!!

One of the simplest and most effective remedies for heartburn is to slowly sip a glass of cool water. The water washes the stomach acid out of your esophagus.

thomcat · 03/09/2007 21:54

Maybe squeeze the fresh lemon into the water?

Gingerbear · 03/09/2007 22:30

Milk is cack - it makes more acid!!

elkiedee · 03/09/2007 22:43

I thought milk would be awful but it did actually help a little for me. I found Gaviscon really disgusting, more so because so sweet. I had terrible acid causing heartburn, nausea and actual sickness for months, and until baby came. No good tonight but I found icepops and watermelon at least made me feel a bit better for a little while.
