Travelling to Amsterdam - scared of Coronavirus!

I’ll be 10 weeks pregnant when I’m due to fly to amsterdam with some friends. I’m such a worrier and anxious person anyway especially when pregnant but the whole Coronavirus outbreak is making me feel sick with worry! I’m not sure whether to say I can’t go now, or whether to bite the bullet and go! We are only going for 2 nights/3 days but I’m so scared!
Anyone else worried about it all? Or do you think I should be okay. Really don’t know what to do. I’ve spent £250 on it all already and I know my partner will get the hump if I cancel cause he doesn’t understand my worrying!

Is there any reason why you would be more at risk in Amsterdam than where you live?

HolsF28 · 13/02/2020 21:13

I’m worried about the travelling there and back more so, the airports and the plane etc

Where are you travelling from. Do you think you will be able to relax and enjoy yourself or will you just be a jingle of nerves the whole time which is not fun for anyone. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Travelling from stanstead. Tbh I think I’m gonna be a bag of nerves. Leaving my 2 year old son at home and never been away from
Him for that long, worrying about the plane crashing and dying and all sorts (Literally a bag of nerves!) but if this Coronavirus wasn’t happening I’d relax a bit more but just petrified, no one knows what it does in pregnancy, I’ve come down with a cold virus and it’s knocked me for six can’t imagine what that virus would do!! Just really worried about it x

Tbh I would cancel even though you'll probably be absolutely fine. You could take the Eurostar instead if its the flying that worries you the most. Ive got a europe flight booked and feel a bit concerned.

I’m so tempted too, just know my OH would have the raging hump! Cause of the money I’ve spent already. Just wish I said no from the start!!

I can totally understand the anxiety but I think its misplaced. Outside of Asian there are a really small number of cases, predominantly those who had travelled recently to China. Would you be afraid to go to the hospital or a supermarket or on a train / tube? These are crowded areas where you could potentially come into contact with someone who is spreading a virus. I don't think the risk is higher in an airport / on a plane. Enjoy your break.

Hey Im meant to be going to Amsterdam too at the end of march so I will be 14 weeks but more concerned as its a girls trip and there will be lots of drinking and passive smoking in the cafes so not sure what to do!

HolsF28 · 14/02/2020 18:08

Hey RBick07, that’s a worry of mine too! I’m gonna have an early scan the week before to check everything’s okay and gonna have to tell them cause I’m gonna need to sleep and can’t be out all night, I can’t hack it! So annoying isn’t it, what do you think your gonna do?

I dont think I am going to go as I went out the other night and everyone was drinking and I was sober and it was hard work. Also I am going to spend my travel money on maternity clothes instead xx
