Anyone know what's classed as high resting heart rate in late pregnancy?

I think over 100 is High, mine is over that so they’ve referred me for an Echo and ECG to try and find out why...

Bit long winded but I'll explain why I ask.

Went in to day assessment unit last week, because I have had a really sore bump, all below my belly button only way I can describe it is feeling bruised. I wanted to get it checked because my placenta is at the front.

They didn't seem to take much notice of this.

Monitored baby for a while as I've had very up and down movement.

Did BP and heart rate - heart rate was at 100 which they said they wanted to retest in a while as it was probably just raised because I'd been waiting around etc. Said if it was still as high they would do an ECG.

Worried me slightly as I had emergency section last time, and was hooked up to
ECG near the end as my heart rate was sky high and not coping (I'm having planned section this time)

Went for a scan and came back and there had been a staff change over of doctors. The doctor didn't have a clue what I was in for, started talking about a growth scan I'd had the week before, and then mentioned the scan I had that day, (I was 37+5) and that there was a lot of fluid but it was only marginally above the acceptable level so not worried because my section is booked in anyway. (Fluid not been an issue previously)And wanted to send me on my way.

I said well they said before my heart rate was high - she said oh your probably just anaemic we'll do your bloods. I decided to go home and put my Fitbit on that I hadn't been wearing, to keep a track of my heart rate and for the last 5 days resting heart rate has been between 105-120.

I phoned up to ask about blood results - all clear. I said so is my heart rate an issue then? She said I spoke to the dr and he said not to worry it won't have really been that high it will have just been due to you waiting about, I said well it's still that high because I've been monitoring it at home, to which she said it will only be high because your monitoring it!!

It's on my Fitbit so I'm hardly worrying and then checking it so it's coming out high!

I feel so fed up, I've had acid reflux constantly since yesterday, it won't go away not even with medication, my skin on my legs feel so itchy I'm so uncomfortable, I'm constipated, and just generally feeling very anxious and stressed and just have this feeling that something could be wrong.

I feel like an absolute wet lettuce - never thought I'd feel like this with second baby. I'm booked in for a section week on Wednesday and I don't know how to cope until then Sad

Honestly in your position I would rock up and insist on being properly checked out. Better safe than sorry and if one doctor thought it warranted investigation I wouldn't rest easy until I was confident that had been done. It's hard because you don't want to be a nuisance, but I've come to the conclusion that you have to advocate for yourself in pregnancy as it isn't worth risking something being missed.

Catlover10 · 18/02/2020 00:38

Maybe insist on an echo scan before your section? I haven’t had mine yet it’s not until next week so I can’t let you know the results of mine but I am also confused why my heart rate is so high. Apparently it’s supposed to raise in pregnancy but I didn’t think it was supposed to be that high so I would definitely try to find out why. I’m 22 weeks at the moment so I’m hoping u might get somewhere before baby is due.

My heart rate has been high in all of my pregnancies, regularly ended up being kept in when I went in with other issues. I had lots of tests done and nothing showed up, been told to follow up with GP post natally just incase it's an issue outside of pregnancy too. Pregnancy can cause a high heart rate but obviously other things can too, go in to be checked whenever you need too and good luck for your C-section.

Thanks ladies, it's just frustrating that they wouldn't give me an answer as to wether that's an acceptable level - just repeated that it wouldn't be that high when it really is. X

Mine was rarely below 100 and regularly 120, eventually they stopped asking me to drink loads when I went in as I couldn't always be dehydrated. Heart rate was 140 in my last labour though which was concerning and problematic as it easy higher than my baby's.

mummy21l · 18/02/2020 04:12

I'm not sure what mine ended up being in labour but that was the reason for doing a sudden emergency section as they weren't happy with it at all.

Can't bloody wait for this to be over!

I lost a lot of blood in my last section too, so I've been nervous about that and just don't really want to be going into it with an increasingly high heart rate. Just wish they would get him out now.

Any updates on how things went?.. I'm having the same issue here, would love to get some feedback. x

Any updates from anyone on this thread? Similar situation x

Catlover10 · 12/08/2023 07:17

I was one of people posting a few years ago, they never really found anything significant from my tests, just decided my heart rate was on the higher end in general I think. My baby was fine anyway and I’m pregnant again now and fully expecting my heart rate to raise again to over 100 if I’m honest! I’m trying to do a bit more walking in general this pregnancy as I wasn’t doing a lot last time at all, just incase this helps at all but who knows! X
