Aspirin for pre-eclampsia

Saw my consultant today and they have said I have an increased risk of pre-eclampsia so have recommended I take aspirin each evening.

Consultant has written me a prescription.

Can I just buy aspirin from the supermarket? Is it the same quantity etc? If it is the same then I'd rather just buy it myself as it is more convenient and I don't see the point in wasting nhs money.

Did they tell you the dosage?
I'm on 150mg aspirin a night- so I was told to just buy the 75mg ones from boots and take two. The bigger boots have the low dose ones like this.

What does the prescription say? I was prescribed one 75mg tablet per day. They don't sell that size in supermarkets so you'd need to go to a pharmacy. Your prescription will tell you the tablet size and dosage surely?

That is what i have been doing as the hospital consultant gave me one prescription but getting something on repeat from my doctor's surgery is a nightmare sometimes. Just make sure you get the right dosage as I've seen 75 and 150mg tablets.

The pharmacist questioned me once when I became visibly pregnant. But I just told them that I had been prescribed this but didn't have a repeat prescription and they were satisfied with that.

I have to take 150mg a day and was told to take it after breakfast. Glad you’ve been told evening as if I forgot I never take it before bed as I was worried it would do something 😬🤣
I was offered a prescription but declined and I bought 300mg from Tesco and just halve them :)

I tried to buy in boots as thought the same re saving NHS money, went to the pharmacy bit to get the bigger pack than was on the shelves and when I said it was for pregnancy pharmacist said they can't sell it without a prescription. It's because it's an unlicensed use of the drug. Obvs I just went downstairs and bought the smaller packet in the self service tills but yea, they won't sell it to you over the counter (I later got the prescription and got it from Boots no prob)

You can buy your own aspirin as far as you know the dosage you were prescribed. It's 75 or 150 mg.

I buy mine at Asda. They do 75s, and as I have to take 150 I just take 2. Consultant said no point in prescribing as costs them a lot more than 30p a box

Thanks everyone. I'm on 150mg so am taking two 75mg tablets.
