I am 6.5weeks and I have been having problems with constipatin for the last 3 weeks... but now it's getting worse because I keep having to get up to poop in the middle of the night.
I don't know why but I get bad stomach pains which wake me up and have to go... (some nights i can empty my bowels but some night i can barely do anything)... it's driving me nuts!!! It takes me more than half hour to fall back asleep!!! Anyone else every go through this?!?
(I have a good diet and drink lots of water during the day).

Hi

So this was me a few weeks ago and it was incredibly painful and awkward. It got to the point that I thought I would never pass a bowel movement as my body was giving me the signal it was. I couldn't sleep and was so ill at work.

I ended up going to the pharmacy and was recommended Lactulose, it was literally a life saver. It's safe for pregnancy and after you take your first dose you are suppose to drink loads of water. Then taking additional maintenance dose until relieved. It literally worked after a day for me and I so much better now.

Also to note one thing I think contributed to it was that I was taking pregnacare at the time. I noticed a lot of women saying this was contributing to hard stools. So I stopped taking it and just stuck to folic acids. I think the multi vitamins were just making it to hard to pass anything for me personally.

I hope my two cents helps.

I had this. I think it's my prenatal vitamins. I've starting have porridge with prunes and apricots and now it doesn't happen anymore.

Constipation is the most common symptom of pregnancy, even more so than morning sickness, so it's not unusual. Your bowels slow down significantly in pregnancy because of hormonal changes (progesterone and relaxin). Try to stay on top of the constipation if you can! There's lots of advice out there. I agree Lactulose is a lifesaver if nothing else works! I have to take it without fail twice a day and I'm still suffering with it.

Yes I had a couple of weeks like this after I first found out I was pregnant. I sympathise, it was very annoying. Mine has now gone (8+4 now), so be reassured hopefully it should pass and it’s just your body reacting to pregnancy. Morning sickness has replaced it though- sorry 🤣

Thank you ladies. Last night i was finally able to sleep without any midnight visits to the loo. If it returns i will ask the dr/midwife about the Lactulose because last few weeks have been traumatizing.
My morning sickness comes in waves throughout the day and funny enough i feel better once i eat. Smile xx
