Can someone please give me reasons for high BP and protein in urine as I am worrying myself sick. im 25 weeks today, BP was 120/90, 1+ Protein and 3+ Leukocyte in urine. Im panicking it could be pre eclampsia as I've had tingling in my face and headaches for the past 2 or 3 weeks

What has your midwife advised?
Guessing that's who tested you? X

sao81 · 11/02/2020 20:29

@toteswingingit she just said she was sending off my urine to the lab and would let me know if anything comes back, she didn't go into what for just said it needed sending off

It could just be a urine infection. Did she take bloods for testing as well?

Dyra · 11/02/2020 21:41

Was the blood pressure reading high for you? The diastolic is slightly on the high side, but the systolic is perfect. Midwife would also have taken bloods to check for pre-eclampsia. Does she know about the headaches and face tingling? If she didn't take bloods, I don't think she's thinking pre-eclampsia.

However, that leukocyte reading is definitely indicative of a UTI. Which is why the urine has been sent off. A UTI could also be responsible for the protein in your urine as well.

Hopefully you'll have nothing to worry about. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. ❤️

@zebrapig @Dyra she didn't take bloods no, I had some bloods done about 2 weeks ago requested by GP and they came back ok, and I have a GTT next week. I did mention I'd had headaches and face tingling but she didn't note it, just said to get signed off work and rest. I'm usually always 120 or there-abouts with blood pressure, but usually between 60 and 80 on the diastolic so 90 was a surprise to me. Thank you for reassuring me though, I always think the worst 🤦‍♀️ x

If the midwife was concerned about pre-eclampsia, she'd have referred you to maternity triage so don't panic just yet! As above, 90 is classed as high blood pressure (as soon as it hits 90, so you've just got there) but it's not, as I've been told, in the immediate danger levels. Like above, urine issues could be a UTI.

You'll be fine, just relax and rest as much as possible!

I had protein and it was down to a hidden UTI. They monitored my BP for 2 weeks and nothing came of it. Try not to worry too much!

sao81 · 12/02/2020 10:47

@doubl @latheritup thank you! I'm a natural worrier, I've had so much happen already, on crutches due to SPD and awaiting GTT, so I've just put 2 and 2 together and thought the worst. I'm sure if it was bad she'd of sent me, I just panic so much and need the reassurance that I'm ok

I think pregnancy is just one big worry, to be fair! I would just google the symptoms of pre-eclampsia too and keep an eye out on yourself for them. My BP has been consistently over 90 for a few weeks now so I've been given extra checks and told to go straight in if I get any PE symptoms.

Good luck with your GTT, not looking forward to mine in a few weeks Grin

@doubl thank you, and good luck for yours too! I had one last pregnancy and was borderline, but convinced myself this time that wont be the case! I need a holiday 😂

Did you get your results back yet OP? Hope everything's ok.

sao81 · 16/02/2020 06:25

@zebrapig still nothing back, which I'm guessing means its all ok as I'm sure I'd of heard by now! Thank you
