Hi,

I'm 39 weeks tomorrow with my first and due to have a sweep Thursday.

Last time I was at the midwife, I passed out and ended up being ambulanced into hospital, very embarrassing! My fiancé was obviously beside himself so he's booked the morning off work so he can come with me. Just wondered if that is an issue with midwives as I know some general procedures they prefer you alone? Obviously he's half the reason baby is in there and fully prepared to lose any sense of modesty in preparation for/during birth so it doesn't bother me!

Also, as it's my first any info on how it was for you would be really helpful! Thank you

I can’t imagine they would make your partner leave for a sweep (as you say, he’s going to see a lot more if he’s there for the birth!). But I went alone for mine so can’t say for certain.

I had a sweep at some point around my due date, it didn’t make any difference for me (DD arrived 41+2 after induction) but it’s worth a go if you are keen to get things moving. The actual procedure was pretty quick, a bit uncomfortable but not painful. There was lots of bloody mucus afterwards and I hadn’t thought to take any pads (apart from a tiny panty liner!), so go a bit more prepared than me.

Mine was present during the sweeps and all induction procedures
