Scan showing no evidence of pregnancy

Hi everyone,

I had some light spotting and cramping on Thursday and called the midwives and doctor who both said it sounds normal for where I'm at. About 6-7 weeks. By Friday I was a bit more worried and felt I physically needed to see someone so went to the EPU..they weren't able to offer me a scan until yesterday (Monday) and when they did they couldn't see "any evidence of pregnancy". I had light spotting and cramps over the weekend whilst waiting for my scan yesterday, but nothing very bad. Very manageable! I'm pretty much thinking the worst and that it's gone already, but they have taken blood tests and I've to go back again tomorrow to see if the levels have gone up.. it's at 48.9 at the moment which I think is really low. So I'm not holding out much hope that they'll have gone up and I'll actually still be pregnant and the baby is just too small to see at the moment. But I'm kinda baffled if it is a miscarriage that's already happened how I couldn't have seen anything or been in much pain, it's just disappeared!?... anyway, just wondered if anyone else has had a similar situation where nothing was on the scan and then it turned up? I'm not getting my hopes up. (This is my first pregnancy and I'm 38 btw)..

Oh no.. they'd usually be a sac at least. So sorry

Namechanger0800 · 11/02/2020 10:38

Did they do an internal scan? I had similar but they could see a clearer picture of what was happening when I had the internal scan.

DesLynamsMoustache · 11/02/2020 10:46

Early miscarriages can sometimes just be reabsorbed and there's not much in the way of bleeding or pain.

Your HCG is very low for how far along you think you are, so either your dates are out by a couple of weeks or does look like you've miscarried Sad

Hope you get some answers soon Thanks

Hell19art · 11/02/2020 11:25

@Namechanger0800 Yeah it was an internal scan — there was just absolutely nothing there. I've to go back tomorrow for another blood test to see if my hormone levels have gone up, but I really don't think they will have.

@DesLynamsMoustache Thanks... If it is a miscarriage I'm just glad that it happened so early on and with little to no pain. My dates could maybe be out by 1 week max as my periods can be irregular, but that would still make me 6 weeks at the earliest so don't think it's looking good. Hopefully they can just tell me conclusively tomorrow and then I can move on and try again in a few months... this was my first pregnancy and kind of unplanned/bit of a shock so we hadn't even gotten our heads around it yet.

I'm sorry OP, hope you get some answers. The levels do sound low but let us know how you get on tomorrow Flowers

Hell19art · 11/02/2020 11:37

@Parkandride Thank you — I will do. This just shows how important it is to go and get checked in person if you are worried. I would never trust a phone call again!

So sorry ....I've been there myself. Take care of yourself.

SunnyFlover · 11/02/2020 12:47

I really hope you will be ok very soon!

I had such scare once but without bleeding, though I was having an ectopic pregnancy, but it was just a continuous false positive ( FRER gives me positives any time of the month as I naturally have 0,5-1 HCG in my blood and FRER is super sensitive- picks it up! I met other lady that also has the same issue), so when there
Was no baby sac in the ultrasound screen, I though I was having an ectopic.

If you will have HCG slowly rising between your blood samples, and still experience the pain but no bangs sac on the ultrasound, it is likely to be an ectopic. I really hope it's totally not your case.

Hell19art · 11/02/2020 15:51

@SunnyFlover I'm really hoping that too that it isn't ectopic and that it's just gone... or way too small/early to see (But I doubt the latter). I don't have any pain anymore at all, so hopefully that's a good sign that it isn't ectopic. Fingers crossed. Will see what the blood tests come back with tomorrow.. but I'm thinking as the hormones were so low yesterday that it's already gone :( The doc said they should be about 1000 for where I think I'm at and was only 48.9.

Did you get your results back -I really hope it's good news for you? Xx

Catlady32 · 12/02/2020 18:46

I'm so sorry to read this, it's an awful rollercoaster. I had the same thing early last year and it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy but in between the wait for blood tests there was this hope that it was maybe just too early and the hormones would rise. I really hope everything works out for you xx

SunnyFlover · 12/02/2020 18:58

Op, how are you doing? Have you found out any more info?

Hell19art · 14/02/2020 15:00

@SunnyFlover @Catlady32 @BooMamaBear
Hi everyone.. So I went back for another blood test on Wednesday and they called me about an hour later to say my hormones had gone down to 24.. They said anything under 20 would be classed as 'not pregnant'. So looks like I lost it over the weekend previously. I've to wait 2 weeks and do a pregnancy test to make sure my levels have gone back to normal and that's it... Hopefully they are back to normal and I don't need to go back for any treatment and then can start again in the near future.

Just goes to show. ALWAYS go and get checked with any kind of bleeding and cramping. Mine was so mild I had no idea it was an actual miscarriage happening. xx
