Shortness of breath during pregnancy

Hey guys, has anyone else experienced shortness of breath from 30 weeks onwards? I have been having it all day.. Although I do think it's because of the cold I have and I have a blocked nose (had the flu injection) but should I be worried? Or is it cause he is just getting bigger and pushing up my ribcage!

I am a GP. None of us can diagnose you over the internet. Please ring 111 so that they can help rule out anything serious. It may well be your cold, but you need other causes like a blood clot (PE) ruling out.

Call your midwife but honestly I've had this since week 7! I feel like a little piglet getting all short of breath when I've just walked to the bathroom

toomuchteaandcake · 10/02/2020 23:01

I've had it since the start

Jaydemeehan33 · 10/02/2020 23:03

Okay thanks, I'll ring up tomorrow as it's late and there was no answer 🙄 I'm not to worried tho as my doctor actually told me the other day it would be happening soon because he's getting bigger!

I can just be talking and start getting out of breath like I've been running! I spoke to my midwife who reassured me this is normal as the baby is big and squashing everything basically lol
I'm now 35 weeks preg tomorrow and it will happen now and again not as much as it was around 30 weeks weirdly. Maybe he's dropped a little.

I had this when pregnant. DD was a huge baby (11lb 4) so I put it down to that.

Are your ankles swollen?

Headache?

Have you got a blood pressure monitor?

Jaydemeehan33 · 11/02/2020 00:32

Nope nothing, just the cold I'm perfectly healthy otherwise, omg no way an 11 lb baby jeeeeeezzzz🥺

I was breathless throughout my pregnancy for no reason other than being pregnant. I did have blood tests to check my iron levels and thyroid function though, and obviously PE is a concern. It's probably nothing but given that it could be something very serious, you're best getting checked out.

Aquicknamechange2019 · 11/02/2020 06:32

I had this. Not to be alarmist but in my case it was bilateral pulmonary embolisms - fairly easily treated once diagnosed but potentially fatal if left untreated. Please call your midwife/day assessment unit when it opens and ask for a check up. I was diagnosed at 28 weeks.

CupCupGoose · 11/02/2020 06:55

I had this in all my pregnancies. I get out of breath just by sitting down.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 11/02/2020 07:09

I’ve suffered with shortness of breath at 30 weeks. Especially going up stairs etc. Midwife said it was nothing to worry about as baby taking up room. Im 32 weeks now and still have it x

Bellsx · 11/02/2020 09:12

Yes since the start, makes you sound so unfit 😂

Jaydemeehan33 · 11/02/2020 10:30

Yeah I'm fine I only get it when walking up the stairs etc, I know am fine I literally had a check up a few days ago 😁😁

I’ve had a lot of breathlessness every time I’ve been pregnant. I’m very short so apparently baby starts squashing my lungs quite early and I’m also asthmatic which some times gets worse during pregnancy. It’s probably nothing serious especially since you have a cold at the moment but get checked out just in case xx

starlightmagic · 11/02/2020 11:40

32 weeks and out of breath at the slightest exertion now! Usually a fit and active person but baby is right under my ribs which isn’t helping.

Jaydemeehan33 · 11/02/2020 14:08

Yeah that seems to be the case for me, 😅

Sudden onset shortness of breath is totally different from gradual onset. Gradual onset is normal in pregnancy, sudden onset is not. In your OP, you said that the SOB came on over the course of a single day. If that is the case, you need to get checked out.

Jaydemeehan33 · 12/02/2020 12:11

I did, it was my cold because I had a chest cold
