Ok, so, on Tuesday I had to take the morning after pill. I've never done this before so I'm not sure what to expect.
My period was due on Thursday but hasn't come, although I know that irregular periods can be a side affect.
Anyway, I've had a twinge in my hip for a few days and I've not been hungry. This was similar to my last pregnancy. It prompted me to take a pregnancy test and I have 2 pink lines showing I'm pregnant.
Could this be my hormones after taking the pill? I'm sorry if I seem silly and naive but I could really use some help.

If you took the MAP on Tuesday then I'm assuming you had unprotected sex on Monday? I think it would be VERY unlikely to get a positive test so soon afterwards. 6 days isn't long enough for implantation to take place and your body to produce high enough levels of HCG to be detectable on a test.

That said, could you have been pregnant before you took the pill?

bernardscry · 09/02/2020 15:37

Thank you for replying. I suppose there was a slim chance I was pregnant before the pill. We are usually pretty careful.
The line is fairly solid. I can post a pic later as currently in the bath completely shell shocked. If I was pregnant before I took the MAP I hope I haven't done anything awful to the baby and I feel so stupid and irresponsible for not checking first.

Did you have sex before Monday too? If so, you’re pregnant. Too soon to show a positive from Monday though, and no it won’t be from the morning after pill.

bernardscry · 09/02/2020 15:43

Thank you, yes, had sex mid way through January. I really must be pregnant

The morning after pill only delays your ovulation cycle by 3 days, so if you had already ovulated before, you could have missed the window and you could be pregnant anyway.

2 solid lines does not sound like hormones but very much like pregnancy,

Firstimemam · 09/02/2020 15:59

Having read the above, if you already know you you're pregnant, this has nothing to do with last week. You would not see you're pregnant yet, earliest would be 2 weeks after ovulation (some say 10 days but i don't think that's right) x

bernardscry · 09/02/2020 16:19

Thanks everyone. I've sent dh out to get some more tests just to check.
I only took the morning after pill on Tuesday as we had a contraception malfunction. I've not been trying to get pregnant.

Just wanted to post and say best wishes. I'm sure you will be worried now. Lots of people have taken the map and gone on to have perfectly healthy babies. Even though not planned perhaps this is what your family needed!

bernardscry · 09/02/2020 17:03

The test I took earlier.

Help please!

@Firstimemam it certainly is possible to get a positive test 10 days after ovulation, I did with 4 of my 5 pregnancies (3 ended in miscarriage) and with the other I was 11 days post ovulation.

FTM2020 · 09/02/2020 19:26

Ooh, that's a strong positive. Tentative congratulations! I know it wasn't planned and you must be shocked but give yourself a couple of days to get your head round it x

FTM2020 · 09/02/2020 19:27

@TwinkleStars15 I got my BFP at 9dpo 👍🏼

bernardscry · 09/02/2020 19:39

@FTM2020 thank you, we are shocked and still not 100% certain it's really happening. Dh seems to think that the MAP has messed with my hormones, but we're not worried either way.
Going to take another test tomorrow!!

@TwinkleStars15

The American pregnancy association:

"HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is often called the pregnancy hormone because it is made by cells formed in the placenta, which nourishes the egg after it has been fertilized and becomes attached to the uterine wall. Levels can first be detected by a blood test about 11 days after conception and about 12-14 days after conception by a urine test."

10 days is very early for your HCG levels
to be so high to be showing a second line on the pregnancy test, especially a dark line rather than a faint one. It's unusual but obviously can happen, which means would know that you're pregnant at 4 weeks which in itself is rare, most people are 5-6 weeks pregnant when they find out as they miss their period.

TwinkleStars15 · 09/02/2020 22:07

@Firstimemam yes I’ve read that many atime, on numerous different sites. However, I’ve been on this ttc journey for a long time and have met many people along the way. I can assure you that it is not uncommon to get a positive pregnancy test at 10dpo, especially using the FRER tests which only needs 6miu of hcg for a positive result. As I say, many of my pregnancies have had a positive result at 10 dpo, including this one. Anyway, it’s not our thread to be debating on. Sorry OP.

Firstimemam · 10/02/2020 07:58

Sorry OP, if you had unprotected sex on 03/02, that'd be 7 days, so no pregnancy test would show your pregnant (I'm sure there is rare cases), so it's most likely you were pregnant already x

CheesecakeFactory87 · 10/02/2020 08:44

Can't taking the MAP when already pregnant cause huge issues?

Firstimemam · 10/02/2020 12:00

I'm neither a doctor nor a pharmacist but it delays your ovulation cycle, and if you're already pregnant and you can't ovulate I don't think so but this is just me thinking logically - no clue otherwise
