Washing baby's clothes

Im washing all of baby's clothes today ready for his arrival.... we normally use supermarket own brand non bio detergent. Is this ok to use for baby to? Or do we really need to use something specific such as Fairy non bio baby sensitive?

Also, is it best to wash with or without freshener? Or is this just something else to potentially irritate baby's skin?🤷🏼‍♀️

Own brand is fine. I did use softener. No skin issues

We just use normal non bio, and yes without softener/freshener. I don't think you need to use a particular brand.
Congratulations on your impending arrival!

I am so glad you asked this as I was just pondering the same thing.

My baby isn't due until May but my mum keeps gifting me clothes that reek of cigarettes so I'm washing early as they make me gag

I used sainsburys non bio and then comfort pure. My daughter has never had a reaction even though she has very sensitive skin.

I used fairy non-bio only as it doesn’t irritate my eczema but I’m sure any non-bio is fine

Also used softener. Just any supermarket own brand but the most unscented. It’s always white and called pure (or a version of) in every shop

I started out with non bio but one day DH did a wash with regular washing powder and conditioner. There was no reaction and I just carried on using the regular stuff after that. Actually I think by the end of the first month I'd also stopped worrying about pre washing new clothes as well

I use Fairy for baby clothes, half for sensitivity and half because I love the smell and associate it with babies Grin

Supermarket brand is ok. I use it. I bought fairy or other brands only when I found them super cheap, otherwise whatever supermarket non bio was fine for me.
