Hi everyone silly question but I have an induction booked next week. I have just had a cold sore come up and feel really poorly , any remedies to get rid of a cold sore quickly I'm petrified to pass it on to the newborn when I have him.
Thanks in advance

I had 2 pop up straight after I gave birth, I spoke to the midwife on the ward and she said it's fine and through breastfeeding baby will get antibodies to fight against herpes. She just said not to kiss baby x

Is it your first? I believe the risk to the newborn is if it catches one when the mother has never had one.

Cold sores are always a risk to new born babies they can be fatal nothing to do with the first.
Just keep baby away from your face don’t touch Cold sore and then baby and wash hands well.

If you've already had a cold sore this pregnancy your baby is immune to your strain of the virus. I get them a lot and consulted My doctor about them in my first pregnancy.

Only other advice L lysine tablets to speed up healing and the patches to prevent spread

I had a couple of cold sores over Christmas that popped up when I was recovering from a flu strain. My GP and midwife said that I can use Zovirax and it helped clear them really quickly. Best to try and put something on them now so you have the best chance of them healing before baby comes. I’m in the same boat as you - due to be induced next week and I thought I had another cold sore a couple of days ago. I used Zovirax and it’s now gone.
