I may be having a c section much earlier than expected so I’m a bit concerned about feeding so thought I’d look into expressing.

Can anyone recommend a particularly good one that isn’t the crazy expensive Elvie one? Or is it trial and error and it’s just luck?

Also hand pump or electric? It’s a minefield out there!

I just used a tomme tippee hand pump as I knew I didn’t want to do it long term and was only using it to encourage my milk to come in

I have an elvie and an avent electric. Both good. In terms of non electric, everyone raves about the Hakka.

I’d be inclined to hold off until you know what your requirements are. For the first few days you’d be shown how to hand express into a syringe as it’s just drops anyway. If you’re struggling in hospital they will give you a pump to use whilst there. Most places seem to have the Medela Symphony. You can hire these for e.g. a month for about £40 and if you’re referred by the hospital you usually get a discount. If it’s just for milk coming in then that’s that covered. They’re about £2000 to buy!

I have a Medela swing which I went for because I’d used the Medela Symphony in hospital. It is good, bit noisy and not quite as good as the £2000 hospital one! You might want to pump later so someone else can feed or to add to food when weaning but that’s not a newborn decision you jeee to make right at the start if everything is going smoothly.
