Growth scan due to tape measure

Got measured by the tape at my midwife appointment and she was concerned so booked me in for a growth scan.

So far growth has been charting completely fine.

Just a bit concerned right now. However I've heard the tape measure isn't all that accurate?

How many weeks are you OP? I had a extra growth scans with DC1 from around 30 Weeks as he also measured small by the tape, there was no issues with him at all but it was quite nice to have a few additional scans for reassurance :)

My first was a totally average baby, but a tiny bump. Would be measured by tape, sent for a scan, told all was fine, then next midwife appointment I'd measure small again so they'd send me back for another scan... it went in circles with nobody wanting to say "yeah it's just a small bump, no more scans needed". Understandable, as who would want that responsibility if the baby had stopped growing! But it meant a lot of scans.

I think the tape measure is indeed pretty inaccurate, and different body shapes/ how toned your muscles still are, how the baby is lying etc all will change the measurement of bumps at different weeks, so I wouldn't let it stress you. Good to be reassured by a scan :)

Tape measures aren't accurate, I measured off the chart for my first and he was around 33rd centile when he was born. This time I've got regular growth scans (not really sure why but I'm consultant led and also older and high bmi), and baby is on 50th centile despite measuring large with the tape measure. Yet everyone is telling me I look small 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 it's nice to be reassured by a scan and see your baby more frequently too x

I had this at 27 weeks last week. Baby is on 50th centile on the scan. It’s a screening test I guess, so not that accurate. Hope yours is fine too.

Is it showing big or small? My friend had one for it measuring big and when scanned was all fine. Best of luck.

Couldn't wait till Friday so booked myself in for a private scan.

Basically baby was measuring on the 90th centile at last growth scan at 26+5. I'm 28+3 today and she's measuring 44th centile, so I'm expecting the growth to slow down now.

Has anyone had growth slow down like this?
It's only been 2 weeks since the last scan. I get scanned every 4 weeks due to low Papp-a so I was expecting this is a way, but I'm a lot more worried than I thought I would be.

Please if anyones been in the same situation can you tell me your experience.

These measurement methods are ridiculous, 3 people could take the same measurement and all come up with a different figure. Even growth scan are not 100% accurate. Scaremongering, everyone is genetically different and there is one set of 'clinically correct measurements' that everyone's unborn baby has to fall into before they start making you worry, doesn't make sense does it? X

@maria2bela You're right. That's cheered me up a bit. Will see what they say on Friday. I've got a feeling they'll be inducing me a lot earlier now.
