I had my 12 weeks scan 2 weeks ago and they said everything looks fine baby is healthy. But I am literally gained no weight but I am eating fine. Is that something to worry about? I heard you should start gaining weight from 12 weeks? Just freaking out about everything bieng okay

Of course it’s fine, they said it was fine at the scan.
The baby is still teeny tiny so there’s nothing wrong with not having gained weight at this point obviously
And based on your own information, if you’re ‘supposed’ to gain weight from 12 weeks, that was only 2 weeks ago.

Funkycats · 05/02/2020 09:05

I'd be reassured by your scan. If it helps, I barely put on any weight during any of my pregnancies. I did lose a little in the first trimester due to sickness. Caught up eventually, but my weight was literally all baby/placenta/fluid, so was pre pregnancy weight within days of giving birth.
That was before the age of bombardment of information, otherwise I might have been worried.
Are you healthy otherwise?
Congratulations on your pregnancy Flowers

I barely put on any weight until about 15 weeks. Am now 22 weeks and have probably put on about a stone overall 😔 I put on 4 stone in my first pregnancy though so being over half way having only gained 1 so far seems good to me 😂

R2D2abc · 05/02/2020 09:18

With my first I lost about 5-6 kg in the first trimester. He's almost a teenager now. It's ok.

Betsyboo87 · 05/02/2020 09:29

I lost in my first trimester. I didn’t start gaining weight until 16 weeks. As long as you are eating well I’m sure the baby is fine.

TwitcherOfCurtains · 05/02/2020 09:33

You're perfectly fine not to be gaining weight yet, it will happen in the last trimester usually.
Also, remember that you don't need to and it's not healthy to be gaining several stones of weight like a lot of women now do so don't worry you're not keeping up with them.

Harriett123 · 05/02/2020 09:54

I lost a stone in my first trimester and only started gaining weight at the end of my second trimester. I ended up gaining under a stone in my whole pregnancy and had 10 lbs 9 oz baby.
The scans are good try not to worry. Just focus on eating a balanced diet and take your prenatal vitamins and your body will do what it needs to do.

Amys136 · 05/02/2020 09:56

I lost weight up to about 18 weeks because of nausea, not drinking and the thought of any junk food making me feel sick

Caspianberg · 05/02/2020 09:57

I didn't gain anything until 20 ish weeks which consultant said was fine. Now 28 weeks and have gained around 10kg.

Baby rapidly grows from around 22-24 weeks, before that they weigh very little, and after 20 weeks is hen everything like uterus, placenta, fluids really increase, before that its all rather minimal.

20viona · 05/02/2020 09:58

It's fine i Gained nothing until about 25 weeks and I gave birth at 37 weeks to a 5lb baby.

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 05/02/2020 10:00

I'm 15 weeks and have lost 9lbs, my midwife isn't bothered. Everything I want to eat is healthy and I've gone off ALL sweet food so I guess these are the reasons for the weight loss as I'm definitely eating enough.

jomaIone · 05/02/2020 10:02

I am overweight and was worried about gaining a million kg when I got pregnant. I gained 5kg overall and all at the end. My midwife told me the baby will take what it needs from me and it's not necessary to gain anything. Especially early on! Try not to worry!

FluffMagnet · 05/02/2020 10:08

I lost nearly 1.5 st in the 1st trimester and then stayed static for the remainder of the pregnancy. Baby grew - I shrunk (there was rather a lot of me to shrink in the first place, so overall I ended up in a far better shape than I was pre-pregnancy). Talk to your midwife if worried.

fool11 · 05/02/2020 10:30

I gained 1st during my first pregnancy (could barely eat first 5m), my daughter is 5 and perfectly fine.

Pinkflipflop85 · 05/02/2020 10:33

I lost a fair amount if weight in pregnancy due to being so sick. Weighed 2lb less at the end of pregnancy than I did before I was pregnant.

Baby was a very healthy and chunky 8lb at birth.

aNonnyMouse1511 · 05/02/2020 10:38

You don’t need to gain weight to have a healthy baby. Dont worry. The baby wont even weigh 1lb at this stage.

stuckinthemiddlewithtwats · 05/02/2020 10:43

Don't worry, I didn't put any noticeable weight on until after 20wks (despite already being chubby so I thought I'd be piling it on). I was actually losing weight at one stage.
You'll put some on eventually.
Mine has come all at once sadly, and I now have a disgustingly wrecked stretchmarked belly as baby had a huge growth spurt. No idea how much more damaged will be caused in the next 3 weeks until she's due.

userabcname · 05/02/2020 10:53

I lost weight in my first pregnancy in the first trimester due to sickness. I only started gaining weight at around 18 weeks with my second. Don't worry about it.

abbs1 · 05/02/2020 12:40

I had lost over 6kg (15lbs) when I was 12 weeks due to HG and its taken all it's time to regain this weight and now I only weigh 2.5kg more than I did pre pregnancy and 32 weeks. I wouldn't worry. As long as baby is growing well that's the most important.

crazycatbaby · 05/02/2020 12:43

If the scan looks fine I wouldn't worry, I lose weight at the beginning due to sickness. I'm having a c section next week and think I'm about 2.5kg over what I started off at 🤷🏻‍♀️babies will take what they need from you!

Keyboard91 · 05/02/2020 13:30

I’m 33 weeks and still 5lb under my pre-pregnancy weight - I lost in the 1st trimester and have stayed pretty steady over the last 10 weeks. Baby was estimated at 4lb10 at my 32 week growth scan which was a good weight (55th). My midwife said it wasn’t anything to worry about and that baby would take what he wanted from me.

Hayley94 · 05/02/2020 13:35

I'm 18 + 1 and I'm still lb under from my booking in appointment x

jdy123 · 05/02/2020 13:56

I'm 14+4 and was worried as I've only gained a few pounds. I'm 9 stone 8 and think I started at 9 stone 5.
I was expecting to gain more by now for some reason but I guess the no alcohol will be helping Grin

blackpinkinyourarea · 05/02/2020 13:59

Im 13.5weeks and have already put on at least 4lb, but im a bit underweight so ive been making a conscious effort to eat more and have been lucky with no morning sickness! As long as you are eating well and getting all the nutrients you need for you and baby then theres nothing to worry about.

Bby20 · 05/02/2020 18:49

This thread is very comforting! I'm 13 weeks and have lost 2kg so far, been eating plenty, I'm only a size 8 so have been slightly worried, but my midwife didn't seem to be. I'm very muscly but have cut back on the gym so hoping the weight loss is just me losing muscle.
