Severe pain in rib / shoulder coughing

Hi, I’m looking for some advice- I’m in soo much pain, I’m 35 weeks pregnant and I’ve had a hacking cough for three weeks. I was starting to get pain in my right side a couple of days ago and then all of a sudden last night I moved / was coughing in bed and was in the most awful pain in my right rib, really terrible pain to the point I went to a&e to get checked over this morning. They said pulled I have pulled the intercostal muscle through coughing (gp gave me antibiotics the day before) I have spend the day not moving much, and pain has been bad but manageable with paracetamol. However this evening it’s got sooo much worse- hurts to breath, to move, too scared to cough as it’s agony, can’t lay down, and pain is now in right shoulder as well as all round right rib. Not sure what to do with myself. Is it normal for this type of pain to be so severe? Any advice? Many thanks.

I had exactly this for over ten days, the only thing that's easing it now is fighting through the pain to keep moving it gently. Like light housework, normal breathing and gentle turns. Turns out resting it totally was making it doubly painful. . GL x

Hi emberfoot, sorry you have been through this too- bloody painful, although I feel much better than I did last night. I will take that advice and keep moving as much as I can, Thankyou Xx
