Two bars of chocolate today - bad idea?

I'm 28 weeks pregnant and feeling tired, sluggish and fed-up at work today.

I already ate one of those small Green & Blacks chocolate bars earlier - would it be terrible to have another one?

I'm worried it's bad for the baby and that they will be acquiring an overly sweet tooth thanks to my over consumption of chocolate, but I really need an afternoon pick me up! Sad

Eat it! Over Christmas I was eating whole chocolate oranges and a ton of other chocolate too. I've just actually demolished a full bag (share bag) of haribo!

Haha thanks - I know I should have an apple but just fancy chocolate today!

My partner works for Mars chocolate so you imagine my chocolate consumption!🤦🏻‍♀️

I fancy chocolate every day, as long as it's not for breakfast, lunch and dinner I'm sure it's fine 😄

Seriously?? I was about 7 months pregnant over Xmas a couple of years back and lived off tins of roses and celebrations!

(The doctor did tell me to stop with the mini mars bars though as they used to make her wriggle A LOT during scans)

My DD came out healthy.......although she seems to have inherited her mothers chocolate obsession

Absolutely not a big deal to have extra treats on the odd day.
But don't let anyone tell you that constant excessive consumption of treats is totally fine... You may even have people telling you 'Now is the time to eat what you want.' It's a load of total shit.
You're growing a person, so it is actually the time to be a bit more conscious of what you are eating on the whole. But part of looking after yourself includes the odd indulgence of course

My BMI was in the "normal" range when I got pregnant, but I haven't been eating a perfect diet by any means to be honest - I've tried to eat more fruit in the evenings but that's about it. I feel so guilty that I haven't done better!

Omg if two bars of chocolate is bad I'm screwed 🙈

firstimemamma · 04/02/2020 19:41

Don't feel guilty - eat the chocolate!

knittedgoldfish · 04/02/2020 19:49

I was so careful in my first pregnancy. Basically no chocolate at all. My toddler is OBSESSED with chocolate, cake and all things sweet. It's natural and you won't prevent it by not eating chocolate while pregnant.

Bol87 · 04/02/2020 20:31

Don’t be silly. Eat what you like! You can’t pass chocolate to baby..! Pregnancy makes me go off chocolate (😭) & so I didn’t eat any for 9 months with no.1 (same this time too). DD loves chocolate ha! I don’t think you’ll find many children who don’t! Children’s obsession or weight issues from chocolate etc is a lack of parental control over what’s given to them! Of course my toddler gets cake/chocolate but not everyday & it’s a small, toddler sized portion when she does!

You enjoy your choccie!

wondering7777 · 05/02/2020 08:27

Thanks all. I read that what you eat at this stage can influence the baby’s taste, but no idea if it’s true or not! Confused

I managed to resist the extra choccy yesterday as am trying my best to stick to one sweet treat a day. I had a yoghurt instead. It’s tough!

Well I craved satsumas and they are now ds' favourite fruit but I also ate LOADS of chocolate (as well as healthy food) and can tell you that my one and a half year old does not have a sweet tooth! Loves his veg and is a good eater.

Pregnancy can be hard enough as it is so please don't agonise over amounts of chocolate bars. Just eat the chocolate and don't feel guilty Smile

Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy · 08/02/2020 20:24

@toomuchteaandcake haha my thoughts exactly!
I’ve developed a bad Uncle Sams habit! You’re body wants what it wants!

Beseen19 · 08/02/2020 20:31

Your toddler will be obsessed with chocolate no matter how many kale smoothies you fill yourself with during pregnancy.
I ate very well during my first pregnancy, bf completely on demand, only introduced more bitter veg first on weaning and didn't allow sugar before 1. At a play date recently you can guarantee the first snack my 3 year old took was a bright blue cupcake that I would never allow in the house.

Enjoy the damn chocolate! Enjoy the chance to eat it without a little toddler asking to share it.

My mum ate an entire Terry’s chocolate orange every single day when she was pregnant with me, I’m fine and actually prefer savoury food!

Emberfoot · 09/02/2020 23:56

My mum drank lucozade and ate Mars bars through her pregnancy with me as it was all she could keep down. Guess which two things I have never been able to bear eating? Yup, those two.
