When will I see the Health Visitor (Solihull)

Hello.

My midwife said that I should expect to meet my health visitor at around 28 weeks pregnant. I am almost 27 weeks and have not been contracted by anyone - do I need to contact the health visitor or do they contact me?

For my area it would be the Solihull Team so not sure if anyone else is under them and knows?

Thank you!

I've seen health visitor at about 32 weeks last pregnancy. It's not so relevant the appointment in pregnancy, it's mainly to gather some info about you and your family, then will gather more when baby is born. They are happy to answer your questions about baby etc. They will ask where baby will non and will want to see where it will sleep( I found that annoying to have someone inspecting my house like I'm stupid and don't know safety for my baby).

It's not such a great deal, don't worry, they'll eventually contact you before birth.

Sorry, ask where baby will sleep.

Hiya, I’m a HV and in my area we do antenatal visits between 28 and 35 weeks. We send out letters offering them to everyone but tbh mainly only first time mums or mums with a large age gap take them up. They’re usually to get to know you and briefly discuss feeding, safe sleep, imms etc. Mostly it’s to give you some continuity as we try to have the same person for the following visits and especially after a difficult birth/ first few days it’s nice to have someone you’ve met before for the new birth visit when you don’t know which ways up and downGrin

(We also don’t inspect any houses as I’ve seen a lot written on MN but I suppose this varies from area to area and how high the risk is. SIDS is very low risk these days but tbh we do still sadly see it so safe sleep is a big topic at the moment due to all the products on the market currently)

Thank you both - this is my first baby so a bit nervous!

@Annafs - do you know if my letter will be sent once I am 28 weeks or should it be before that point?

I'm a HV too. Call your GP surgery and ask who the HV is and give them a ring 😊

Sometimes the midwife can forget to send us your antenatal form so they may not know about you.

I'm in Birmingham so not a million miles away. Last time (2018) I saw them at 28 weeks. I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant and haven't heard anything yet

MyCatScaresDogs · 04/02/2020 12:51

They rang me at just under 32 weeks, though I pushed back and asked for the appointment to be at 36 weeks when I was on mat leave, to avoid taking a day off work.

Firstgirl · 04/02/2020 13:08

Thank you all - I will wait until I am 28 weeks and then give them a call if I haven’t heard anything

Im 33 weeks and have literally just come off the phone to my HV. She phoned me to book the first appointment (which will be roughly 36ish weeks).

I will say this here because I say it on all threads about HVs. You don't have to see them at all. It's a voluntary 'service' and you can opt out of it as you see fit.

I did see them with my first child and a couple of times with the second, but they have no right or powers to be inspecting your home or anything. To be frank the ones in my area are dangerous so I have refused the service since my middle child was a tiny baby. I haven't had anything to do with them for my third baby.

I just wanted to flag this up because people seem to sometimes think they are mandatory.
