Morning girls.
Just curious what was the latest a hold told there employer about pregnancy?
I'm currently 21 weeks and my employers don't know yet.
Reason being for this is I work with immature people and would sooner just be able to tell them last minute, to save myself feeling rubbish about having to go to work.
I know it sounds bad, but I'm very close friends with my dep manager and she is currently on maternity leave, I told her about this for some advice and she said if she wasn't a manager she would of left it until last minute to, because she knows how some of the girls made her feel during her pregnancy.
Most of the people I work with either have no kids and just live alone, so there not very maternal so I would prefer to do it late as I possibly could.
just wondered if anyone else has actually told there employer late on and how it went??

Do you have to tell them by 25 weeks I think ? But I may be wrong . I told mike at 4 weeks so no help here sorry! I had to tell them as I was so sick early on

I told my employer at 21 weeks but only because I'm already on Mat leave. You have to tell them by week 25 at the latest though.

I didn't have to. Rumours spread (that turned out to be true) when I wasn't even 12 weeks ... or sure if I were keeping the baby.

If you are planning on taking maternity leave, you have to tell your employer you are pregnant, your estimated week of delivery and when you plan to start your MAT leave by the 15th week before the baby is due.

Told mine at 12 weeks as I work in retail with high risks.

24 weeks I think. My immediate manager knew because we are good friends but I didn't tell HR or anything other colleagues or management until definitely after 23 weeks. I didn't have a bump at all until then so no one had twigged!

@INeedNewShoes was anyone mad you left it so late?? Thanks for your reply

Not that I’m aware of.

To be honest this particular employer had treated a few loyal colleagues quite appallingly so I wasn’t that fussed about how they felt at the time.

Bittersweet12 · 04/02/2020 14:12

@INeedNewShoes yeah mine don't treat people the best just worried but I guess as long as I do it before the 25th week they can't be mad!

I'll be about 16-22 weeks, I think. I'm holding off telling them because we have pay reviews in March, and unfortunately I don't trust the business not to take my pregnancy into account if they know beforehand.
