Hypnobirthing

Morning,
I'm thinking of doing hypnobirthing but dont know where to start?! I had an awful birth first time round, 8 years ago! 2 weeks over..induced as nothing was happening after my waters went naturally. I developed group b strep , felt I'll with a fever. Only managed 4cm dilated. Emergency c sec where my daughter was born grey, floppy, un responsive and not breathing, 27 hours after my waters going! Round of resuss breaths and she was taken to intensive care and treated for sepsis. Thankfully nothing serious happend and shes a very healthy, sassy head strong 8.5 year old! So obv the whole birthing thing now terrifies me and like everyone I want a nice calming, stress free natural as possible birth. If i let my self panic then its game over!! I really want to start now practising the breathing techniques. I've seen a couple of helpful videos on you tube but wondering if anyone here has success stories and apps that they would reccomend??

Thank you xx

Have a look at the Positive Birth Company. They have an online digital pack, with tons of videos. Well worth the money

I agree with DullBlue - the Positive Birth Company digital pack is only £39 (and regularly goes on sale) and it covers all the basics you'd need to try hypnobirthing.

I'm a first time mum, so I haven't got any previous birth trauma but I was scared of birth (thanks, one born every minute). I starting watching it with DH at around 20 weeks and can honestly say it made me excited for birth! Since then I've been practising the breathing, listening to the relaxation/affirmations and filling my brain with positive birth stories. I'm 39+1 today and my main emotion about imminent birth is excitement!

I did the positive birth company too. If you follow their Instagram they do offers

If you can afford it, go to a hypnobirthing class. Some hospitals offer them and you can also book privately. I have done courses with wisehippo and with daisy birthing which were both fab.

I did the digital pack with my third and honestly I don't think it's great. But I think you have to be the type of person who can get on board with it.

I just thought it was all a bit to...woo

One of the comments from the presenter is
Something like some people believe that labour can hurt.
I literally paused it and told my husband to listen to this BS.

And then there's the bel

ddraigygoch · 04/02/2020 11:13

FFS baby.

Belief that some words should be banned like contraction.

But if you've got the disposable income I'd go for it because it does seem to work for some people.

purplefig · 04/02/2020 11:48

@ddraigygoch did you watch the science section? I thought that was fascinating and not remotely woo! Tbh even just knowing that (ie. how the body is designed to work and how to make the most of it) has made a huge difference to my mindset. We'll see how it goes in labour!

I think it's fair to say it's not an approach that will chime with everyone though, and that's Ok. But if you're interested in hypnobirthing, it's slow barrier way to find out more (in that it's much cheaper than in person courses and you can watch the short vids at your leisure).

ddraigygoch · 04/02/2020 12:01

I did stick it out and complete it. The science part was interesting but it just didn't mash with me.
She was my third so I kind of knew what I needed to do to get through labour my way.

But I am god I did the videos instead of the groups.

  1. My husband wouldn't have come.
  2. I don't think I'd have gone back after the first.

I did also join a lot of positive birth Facebook groups. Some people were interesting and had good advice but again some posts were just to much for me.
