I just wanted to start a thread we could all join in appreciation of how imperfect we are. I've been having a pretty brutal time since starting IVF, and becoming pregnant, and felt like I should have been doing everything perfectly ie diet, cleanliness etc. I started off doing what my mum and my doc said, continue life as normal. I'm veggie and dairy free so alot of food worries didn't apply.

Where I did feck up:
Didn't wash prewashed salad
Sleep with my dog
Forgot to wash fruit-grapes, bought them had had to have them straight away!

Saw my GP today cos my anxiety around doing everything perfectly got out of hand. She said none of the above are going to do me any harm

Anyone else want to add to the list?
Hope so!
Love
Maggie

Ate a lot of rare steak
Had to clean up the cats litter box while my husband was working abroad
Was always forgetting to wash fruit and veg!
Ate what in our house became known as the ‘delicious forbidden ham’ (Parma ham)
Failed to take vitamins past 12 weeks because they made me throw up

Maggie272 · 03/02/2020 21:55

bonus points if you regularly forget to wash fruit and veg! Thanks @afternoontwee Smile

Chewing my nails, worried I might have chipped some polish off into my mouth and swallowed it without noticing.

LH1987 · 03/02/2020 22:01

Constantly forget to wash salad!

Ate some slightly pink duck yesterday...

Still wake up sleeping on my back.

I have a very serious KFC habit...it’s a problem.

Maggie272 · 03/02/2020 22:21

Love that unwashed salad!

I've never washed fruit, veg or salad in my life! Didnt even realise you were meant to!

And I didnt think it was bad to let your dog sleep on your bed?

My woopsies are more like taking medication that's not recommended, which seems massive compared to these other ones!

Maggie272 · 03/02/2020 22:42

@UrsulaSings my GP said hundreds and thousands of pregnant women sleep with their dogs and cats. I think I was obsessed with doing everything perfectly hygienically and super safely. It's a relief to hear other people are more relaxed and it's ok xxz

Its hard to work out from your post if you do know that it's your anxiety that's the problem, not these other 'oopsies'. I suffer badly with prenatal anxiety, but that's due to a previous late loss, but your anxiety seems to be far more generalised. I know it's not as easy as just chilling a bit on these matters, but I think it is important that you get a bit of support as your anxiety could easily take hold and get in the way of normal life before you know it. Fwiw, I ate pretty much everything I wanted in pregnancy (Inc pate, soft cheese and seafood) and have never washed salad in my life !

Maggie272 · 03/02/2020 22:59

@Desmondo2016 yes, two losses and not reacting well to IVF hormones...dealing with everything as well as I can. Not so easy to get help here, but Mumsnet was a real help over the past while xxx

I never wash fruit or veg, in general or during either of my two pregnancies. I took the occasional anti-histamine tablet. I ate ‘mr whippy’ type ice cream.

FirstTimeDS · 04/02/2020 00:01

Cleaned and played with my hamster.
Ate copious amounts of junk food.
Sometimes forgot to take my iron tablets.
Drank coffee in the morning.

...the list is endless and no woman is perfect, I've tried my best but I'm only human.

WhenDoesTheWashingEnd · 04/02/2020 08:35

Washing fruit and veg??
Yeah that doesn't happen here.

Might have made a couple of brie and bacon sandwiches.

Also refuse to deny myself pate on toast time around.

Have been forced to change cat litter when husband has been away but do take precautions here as much as possible.

This is number 2 and finding I'm waaaaaaay more relaxed about that sort of thing than I was with my first.

GaaaaarlicBread · 04/02/2020 09:34

I accidentally took a strong epilepsy medication form my cupboard (emergency seizure drug) thinking it was Cyclizine for my sickness as it starts with C and I was half asleep. It’s strictly unsafe in pregnancy and I was worried sick.
Constantly forget to wash salad and fruit
Hardly exercised due to sickness , and most definitely not looking after myself
Had my 10 week reassurance scan yesterday and little baby is perfect so thank goodness !
Currently eating an unwashed apple that I forgot about again until I read your post lol, but I’ve started it now 🤣

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 04/02/2020 09:47

I'm 15 weeks and because of my weird food aversions I go through cycles of eating the same thing everyday for about a week before completely going off it. This last week I've been eating salmon everyday Shock I really can't help it. Just salmon, white rice and cucumber. It's either that or I don't eat right now!

Keep forgetting to take Pregnacare everyday, makes me feel so sick Sad

Beck2277 · 04/02/2020 09:51

@LittleBoyJuly2020 I haven't taken pregnacare at all, just folic acid until 12 weeks and then vitamin d on its own. It's all that's needed :) due date today too!

Sheep90 · 04/02/2020 09:53

To those of you who forget to wash salad- I've eaten so few vegetables in pregnancy 😂 baby is doing fine though!

Maggie272 · 04/02/2020 10:26

@Beck2277 Best of luck!!

This is making me feel so much better, and i hope it does for anyone who's experienced the kind of fear I've had over the past few weeks. I thought everyone was way more careful than me. Anyone who forgets to wash apples are my heroes/heroines...xxx

My cats sleep with me - it’s literally impossible for them not to sleep with in our bed, they have done since been kittens and I think it’s cruel to stop them now that their both 6.
I’ve had lots of antibiotics, recently started antidepressants, and I always forget to wash fruit and veg. I’ve probably ate way too much tuna and Big Macs.

Maggie272 · 04/02/2020 10:29

• Ate pre packed sandwiches
• Didn't wash salad
• Went over caffeine limit (craving for coke, forgot it had caffeine in it)
• Had very hot shower (don't think this is as bad as a bath?)
• Lifted quite a lot of heavy things (carefully)
• Cleaned litter tray
• Ate homemade chocolate mousse

Feel awful now...all accidents!

erised · 04/02/2020 12:41

Caffeine! I do limit it as much as possible but I can't stay awake at work without tea.

bobbypinseverywhere · 04/02/2020 12:56

This is a surprising thread for me. Im a GP and I'm 13 weeks pregnant. Im honestly shocked that the average pregnant person would even worry about this kind of stuff? I also went thru infertility treatment and had some early bleeds recently so i do understand worrying about losses - but really stop beating yourselves up and don't be so hard on yourselves! It will be a long 9 months otherwise....

Maggie272 · 04/02/2020 13:05

@bobbypinseverywhere I'm a bit surprised that you're surprised! I saw a new GP yesterday and she said she sees it a lot in first time mums, especially following IVF. Since joining mumsnet I've read so many stories about this kind of anxiety... things are getting better for me over the past few days, but after two losses and IVF hormones, it has been a very anxious time for me. This little thread is helping me see that I need to take the pressure off

Not been pregnant myself but I am TTC, and thinking whether all the stuff you are not supposed to do is really that bad? Like having a couple of coffees a day, 5/10 mins in a jacuzzi? I even read once you shouldn't dye your hair a dark colour if pregnant!

Maggie272 · 04/02/2020 13:10

@JaffaCakeGal I just don't know. My GP yesterday was great and said not to live in a bubble. My mum was around sheep, cats, dogs, hens...we lived on a farm. We used to draw in all kinds of things. I have several siblings and we never get sick, probably because we were playing in shit for most of our childhood! I'm just learning to try not to be a perfectionist, and not to come down on myself for forgetting to take extra precautions. But enjoy your coffee now at the very least!
