Sex on day 22 of a 28 day cycle. What’s the chances I’ve fallen pregnant?

Hi, like title says I have a period every 28 days. Not on any contraception as don’t have Sex regularly enough and not been seeing anyone for a while. Last period started on 6th jan and stupidly had sex on the 28th. Am I right I’m thinking that/ day 22 of cycle and near enough impossible to get pregnant? I am due today and normally start in the morning. Nothing at all and everytime I go to the toilet and wipe I hope for a smidge of red and there’s nothing at all. I feel sick today but that could be worry! I have very thick white discharge almost chalky. What are the chances or am I just worrying for no reason? Thanks 🙏

I would have no idea on chances in terms of percentage but yes I would definitely say you potentially could be pregnant as you have had unprotected sex.

SilverGlitterSparkle · 03/02/2020 17:26

Just to add no symptoms of period. No stomach cramps or backache. How possible is it get pregnant on day 22. What percentage ?

I would definitely take a test tomorrow using FMU. I got pregnant fairly late in the month as I ovulated late. Not every woman ovulates mid way through their cycle.

ToastyFingers · 03/02/2020 17:28

I would have thought that was a little late, sorry. My my estimation you would have ovulate around day 14 of a 28 day cycle. I could be wrong though.

SilverGlitterSparkle · 03/02/2020 17:29

Don’t be sorry ToastyFingers! I’m preying I’ll not pregnant!

I’m order to be pregnant I would of had to ovulate around the 26th or 27th right?

That is nearly in the middle of your cycle so around the time ovulation would occur. It's definitely a possibility.

SilverGlitterSparkle · 03/02/2020 17:46

No I think I’m the middle would be the 21st?

It is a possibility. You could ovulate on day 22.

But only a pregnancy test will give you the answer - not a mumsnet thread.

Also better asking on the conception thread - not pregnancy.

DropZoneOne · 03/02/2020 17:47

Once ovulation has passed, pregnancy would be extremely unlikely. Trouble is OP we don't know when you ovulated! It could be day 14 or earlier or later. To ovulate on day 20 of a 28 day cycle would be unlikely though.

It's possible the worry is causing your period to be delayed so I'd test in the morning if you can.

Monstamio · 03/02/2020 17:49

It's always possible, as you could have ovulated late. But is unlikely if you are as regular as you say. Lack of symptoms is meaningless though, most don't start appearing until around six weeks when the hormones have started to increase. You need to do a test to find out either way.

SilverGlitterSparkle · 03/02/2020 17:50

Thanks for your advice but I did not see the conception thread, my apologies! If I ovulated on the 22nd the egg would have died by the 24th surely as the egg only lives up to 48 hours?

OP posts:
EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/02/2020 17:51

I think it's unlikely but not impossible. The only way you will know is with a pregnancy test.

And if you don't want to get pregnant, use effective contraception.

SilverGlitterSparkle · 03/02/2020 17:56

Would a pregnancy test show I’m pregnant after only 7 days after sex though?

OP posts:
RhymingRabbit3 · 03/02/2020 18:08

It definitely isn't "near enough impossible". Although it is most common to ovulate on 14, it is not guaranteed and quite possible that you could have ovulated on day 20-24. Less likely but possible.
Take a pregnancy test but if its negative and you still dont get a period, take another in a few days.

NotJust3SmallWords · 03/02/2020 18:09

A pregnancy test should show whether you're pregnant from when you miss your period, or even earlier. Try and use a First Response Early Result test if you're worried. They pick up the pregnancy hormone the earliest.
If you had sex 6 days before you were due I think it's very unlikely that you'll be pregnant, but do a test tomorrow if it'll put your mind at ease.

IslayBrigid · 03/02/2020 18:12

I'm a bit confused, what day are you on now? did you have sex day 22 or 24 of your cycle?

If you have a 28 day cycle, and it is 28 days every month exactly, then the latest you will have ovulated is day 17 of your cycle as I have read it is extremely unlikely that the luteal phase (after ovulation and before period comes) is shorter than 11 days. For most women with a 28 day cycle, the luteal phase is 14 days so you would likely have ovulated on day 14 of your cycle.
Therefore, you are not pregnant. The egg only lives for 24 hours. Even if you ovulated day 17, the egg will be dead by day 22. I used the natural cycles app for a year as contraception, and it worked extremely well... for people with a regular cycle, you can be pretty sure that from 24/48 hours after you have ovulated, you won't get pregnant.

However, sometimes people do ovulate late and have longer cycles. Have you been stressed this month? Is there any reason why it would be late?
Stressing about being pregnant could also delay your period from starting.
If your period us due today, a positive test should show up, but NOT if you ovulated late. Earliest you can really get a positive test is about 10 days after ovulation.

SilverGlitterSparkle · 03/02/2020 18:52

I’m day 28 but no sign on period and I’m never late! I had sex I’m day 22. I have been stressed this month with quite a few worries. I’m now worried more than I ovulated late and then conceived on day 22. I just want someone to tell me to stop being silly and that there’s no chance! 😭

ShowOfHands · 03/02/2020 18:54

There is a chance you are pregnant. Nobody can give you a percentage. A normal luteal phase means that you probably ovulate between days 12 and 18 but you might have a shorter lp or have ovulated late. Basically, we can't tell you.

Echobear · 03/02/2020 18:55

Hey OP unfortunately nobody can tell you want you want to hear. As it is impossible to know for sure either way. Fingers crossed it hasn't happened for you but only a pregnancy test will tell you for sure xo

LuckyWright · 03/02/2020 19:52

Yes no one can tell you that there is no chance at all because there is a chance. As others have said. Take a test in the morning... then you will know!

PieAndPumpkins · 03/02/2020 22:39

Natural cycles contraception can be extremely effective if you have a regular cycle. Even a regular cycles can often differ by a day either way though, but that would still make sex on day 22 unlikely to cause pregnancy. Wait until tomorrow to see if AF shows and take a test. Only way to know for sure...
