Feel like I'm choking on my own tongue 😖

Has anyone else experienced this and got any tips?

Am nearly 22 weeks and been feeling a bit under the weather, slightly sore throat, headache and generally achey and tired. I feel like I've got something in my throat, or like I'm wearing a too-tight tie which is slightly strangling me, or like I'm gagging on my own tongue. I've done a lot of dry heaving today, it's worse when I'm laid down and keeps waking me up.

Is it pregnancy related maybe? Feeling super rubbish and due back at work tomorrow after a weeks holiday so don't want to phone in sick Sad

I don’t know, but it sounds quite unpleasant.

Why not phone 111 for advice?

KatnissMellark · 02/02/2020 23:38

It is unpleasant but I'm wondering if it's just a cold/virus and then my gag reflex being overactive due to pregnancy. Feel a bit like it would be OTT to phone 111 Blush

Not OTT at all

Sounds like your tongue / throat could be swollen

Are your ankles / legs swollen?

Please ring 111 !!

Startoftheyear2020 · 02/02/2020 23:48

It's possibly silent reflux. It's exacerbated by a cold. Have a look at the symptoms online.

KatnissMellark · 03/02/2020 00:11

No swelling at all anywhere. Have just tried a gavison tablet and actually feel a bit better. Have propped myself up to try to sleep. Suspect as suggested by pp it may be reflux.

Please be careful in case you've had an allergic reaction and are experiencing anaphylaxis, call 111 x

KatnissMellark · 03/02/2020 00:23

It's definitely not anaphylaxis, it's been going on for two days!

Look in a mirror and the swallow. Watch your adams apple, does it seem normal or maybe a bit swollen? If you have a goitre then you may or maynot be able to see it. Its to do with thyroid problems which are quite common in pregnancy. I would get checked out by the GP on Monday as any problems with swallowing should be seen by a doctor

SeaToSki · 03/02/2020 00:41

Also, it could be an allergic reaction. I had an unexpected reaction to antibiotics and my tongue swelled up. It didnt go down properly for two days and that was with loads of antihistamines. Do you have any rash, itching, stomach upset, itchy eyes etc

Marcipex · 03/02/2020 10:55

Hope you’re okay Katniss. It’s not ott to call 111, it’s what they’re there for.

KatnissMellark · 03/02/2020 14:04

I am absolutely fine- thanks everyone for advice. Saw GP this morning and he thinks it's reflux/heartburn so am trying treatment for that. Feeling a bit better already.
