Bleeding on and off confusion

Good evening. I'm roughly five weeks pregnant with my second child. I assumed I wasn't because my period started to come in on Monday. The thing was, it never got heavier like my period usually does and eventually by Wednesday I had two tests taken and what do you know, both positive tests.

This weekend has been hell on earth for me. The lighter bleeding never stopped/still hasn't stopped. Okay, it comes and goes but when it comes, at first, it was a brown colour. Now when it comes on, it's red. Bright red, turns dark red before going brown again. Then it disappears. I have no cramps. A little rib pain and back pain below where my bra sits, but no pains that are concerning. The pain I do have below my bra line is more uncomfortable than anything.

So the red bleeding had me in A&E last night. They took another test. It still said I was pregnant but the blood was fresh. No one was there to scan me at 3am so they told me bed rest today, which I've done and low and behold, the red bleeding still came on.

Basically now all I'm doing is waiting for tomorrow because I'm calling to get a same day scan to check everything out. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I get that sometimes spotting is common in pregnancy as people keep telling me, but bright red blood on a tissue when you wipe? I don't need to wear a pad. It's only there when I wipe and I'm not in any concerning pain.

I just wish I knew what was going on. If the worst is going to happen then I just wish I could know because then I could prepare. This stop starting bleeding is beyond stressful. I just wish I could know. I never experienced this with my daughter so this is all brand new and exhausting for me

Any advice/experience would be good.
