Confused About Possible Pregnancy

Hey Everyone - I just found out this morning that I am pregnant and I'm a wee bit confused about dates and was hoping for some input!

I used one of those digital tests that tells you conception, and it said 3+ weeks. But the thing is, I had af 2 and a half weeks ago. While I feel like af was normal, it was 4 days late, which makes me think maybe it wasn't really one? But it certainly was heavy enough to be normal. To make the timeline easier:

Feb 1 - BFP (3+ weeks since conception on test)
Jan 6-10 - AF
Jan 2 - When AF originally should have arrived
Dec 24 - High chance of ovulation

So, I guess my question is when did I get pregnant!? I am making an appointment with a doctor next week, but it is driving me crazy waiting. Thanks!!

Congratulations on your pregnancy OP.

I'm not a fan of the digital readers that tell you how far gone you are, I've seen several posts about how inaccurate they can be

But, it could also be possible that what you had was an implantation bleed. My sister still swears to this day she had a normal period when she was pregnant. She thought she was 5 weeks but turned out to be 9 when she found out, so it does happen. She was also on the pill. She's a medical marvel lol.

They can be inaccurate, it’s just based on the amount of hormones in that wee. More concentrated higher number vice versa.

There’s also other things like twins, implantation bleeding and random factors that could make it stronger or explain the late period.

I would say they will date your pregnancy from 6 th Jan which was day 1 of your last period and would make you 3 ish weeks pregnant.

Congratulations 😊

OP, was the 24th December the only time you had intercourse, or is it possible you have fallen pregnant after 6th January?

eandz13 · 02/02/2020 12:25

This is practically exactly the same as what happened to me this time round. Turned out my 'af' was implantation (it looked and felt like a normal period) and I was actually nearly 8 weeks when I found out and thought I was early testing!

Some women have period-type bleeds all the way through pregnancy. And some women produce more HCG than others- the clear blue tests are only based on the average readings. A scan can help you with the dates, but as PP said, I think you ought to base it on the first day of your last period for now. If I were you, I'd probably get an early scan about a month from now too just to check.

In July I had an ectopic, so I went and had my blood tested and a scan done today. The doctor said my HCG was over 2,000, but when they did the internal ultrasound they couldn't find anything.

So now I'm even more lost and confused. I have to go back tomorrow to test my blood again...

So that'd put you around 5-6 weeks then?
