Bleeding at 13&14 weeks, some cramping, IVF baby...

I’ve been scouring this page for something or someone’s story who is similar to mine and I can’t.

I had a massive bleed last Friday at 13w3d (no cramping) went to ER, they did an ultrasound and the baby was wiggling around and had 154 heartbeat. Everything looked fine. My hcg was good, they said my cervix measured fine...but they didn’t do a pelvic exam. So they didn’t visualize my cervix. After I left the ER with a “threatened abortion” diagnosis, I was told to follow up with my OB. This baby is a result of a fresh IVF cycle. Our first. We got so lucky.

So I follow up with OB 3 days later and the bleeding has pretty much stopped. He said there was no reason to check my cervix as the ultrasound he did on office showed that it was fine. I didn’t argue with it.

I went on to randomly spot all week, toward the end of the week the bleeding was a little heavy in the morning and very dark brown but subsided the rest of the day.

Yesterday, my husband and I were getting ready to go into a restaurant and I felt a huge gush. More blood, this time with a large clot (I didn’t have clots the first time) and I went on to have period like bleeding that is continuing this morning. This time I am having mild cramping. I have a doppler and I have found the heartbeat every time I listen. It’s nice and strong at 156-160.

I called my doc yesterday when it happened and they didn’t want me to go to the ER if I wasn’t soaking a pad in an hour. Told me to rest and hydrate. I am on aspirin, because the IVF clinic had me on it and my OB told me to continue it. I can’t help but feel like it makes the bleeding loom worse because of thinning it.

I’m just looking for some hope. Praying that someone here has experienced this. Confused

Yes I bled (heavy gush) at 11+4 with no pain, however I passed approx 3cm clot. Baby was fine and no explanation for the bleed. At 12+6 had another heavy bleed and I was spotting after that until about 14weeks. Still had no explanation other than some women bleed in pregnancy Shock. I’m now 23+1, baby is happy and healthy and haven’t bled since.

Thanks ladies! I’m 15w3d and continue to have spotting/bleeding. I listen to her (found out we are having a girl) on the doppler twice a day.

It turns brown like it’s going to stop and then starts bright red again. I’ve since been to my OB and they did a pelvic exam...cervix was closed. So still no explanation for why.

Congrats on your pregnancies! I hope this little girl continues to grow like your little ones!

I'm 13 wks post an IVF fresh embryo transfer and I had bleeding at 10 wk 3 days, 12 wk 1 day and 12 wk 5 days. The first time I ran to A&E and they sent me back with the same explanation that one needs to be soaking multiple pads in an hour. The second time I also passed a big clot, however didn't go to A&E due to my previous experience. Although, I did notice that I start bleeding a few days after stopping my progesterone pessaries. I was meant to take it until wk 10 initially. Then extended it to week 12 on fertility clinic's advice (due to bleeding). Now after the third episode decided to continue further and wean off slowly as the bleeding happened only after I reduced or stopped my progesterone supplements. It's a little weird as they say the placenta is meant to take over by wk 8 and stopping progesterone should not cause the bleeding ideally. But every body type is different so I'll keep taking them until I can safely stop. After every bleeding episode the scans confirmed an active and healthy baby. So just taking it with the stride now. Also read on a lot of forums about ladies bleeding through their pregnancy to finally deliver healthy babies. So crossing everything right now for healthy and happy babies for all of us here! Congratulations & good luck ladies!

Oh btw, I'm also on aspirin 150 mg as I have high blood pressure. But only just started them. So hopefully the bleeding has nothing to do with it.

Hello, this is a long shot, but I am in the middle of the same situation and this is the only forum that I have found with someone going thru it. How did the pregnancy went? How is your baby? Any further diagnosis?

I have been spotting for a week on and off with my second episode of random bleeding and clot two days ago, I am back to bleeding like finishing my period, no cramps or pain. only the baby gets in a curled hard ball and then relaxes. I am 14 wks pregnant.

Thank you !

@Evy9pr my baby is now 3! I was told i had a hematoma, bleeding in ivf pregnancy is very common but that doesn't make it any less worrying, my bleed was really heavy with clots even came through my jeans, if your really worried you can call your midwife or your early pregnancy unit xx

Babypuponboard · 25/07/2023 16:30

My little girl is 3 now, they put it down to unexplained bleeding. I’ve since had another baby and had exactly same in pregnancy at 13 weeks with him. He is now 9 months.
Wishing you well. Hope this stops for you soon. It’s so unnerving x

@Laurapb88 thank you so much for the reply. It has been such as scary process but finding this thread and reading your story gives me relief to know I am not the only one.
