HELP!!! Sorry, I am a pain in the ar$e but I am 39+1 and still have no definite name for LO

I had a thread a while ago saying we had chosen our names and what were peoples opinions on them - well, e have now totally gone off the names and we are back to square 1.

I need help - desperately! I really want LO to have a name as soon as it's born. I am open to all ideas bar names that a quite modern (such as Taylor/Jordan/Jayden etc - nothing wrong with these names, just not my cup of tea!).

We don't know sex of LO and already have a DD called Grace Elisabeth.

Oh my god I've never named someone's child before - now I really hope it is a girl! I think it is a very pretty name but agree there might be some disagreement about spelling/pronouciation....I know a lovely little girl called Maia which is why I included it, but spelling it Maya (pronounced May-a) might be less hassle all round!

Good luck with the birth. Now if you could just think of a girls name for me!!!(I still have about 12 weeks to go though).

Claraq - you can bask in your glory for a while yet - we still haven't changed our minds! You are asking the wrong person to give you advice on names aren't you!? I am the worst ever!

My DH told me last night he likes the name Daniel for a boy. I am not quite sure about it but his reasoning is that he thinks a girl can get away with a slightly different name but a boy might struggle with say being called Saul/Jude etc. He probably thinks of how he would have been teased in school. I disagree as there are loads of different names in schools now, some are grotesque but if he likes Daniel then I may have to relent somewhat!

Tinkjon - had no idea Maya Angelou was pronounced that way, still like it though! - the reason I chose it is one of my favourite every quotes is by her and I think it is so true to life:

I think spelling it Maya will save a lot of the hassle of how to say it - I love it spelt Maia but as you said, it causes confusion.

I prefer teh spelling Maya to Maia...but I also like Mia....actually my cousin and his wife just named their little Babygirl Mia
Their Boy is called Aaron.

Sorry, but Maya will be mispronounced just as much as Maia! I've met mums of several Mayas and they always say that they get pronounced wrongly... the problem is that either spelling can be pronounced either way. But as I said, I really don't find it a problem personally, it's just something to be aware of if you think it might bother you.

Aloha - I suppose it is entirely up to the individual how it is pronounced but I did look it up on this website -

A) Whatever you choose, it is very likely in a few years time you won't imagine calling LO anything else
B) Whatever you choose, a some point in their life, LO will loathe their name
C) Not everyone will approve of your choice - so what? Just make sure you and DH agree, everyone else can live with it
D) Think about the meanings of names - like Claudia but would be worried about calling my child 'lame'
E) Disagree you have to have name before LO born - much better as others have suggested to see what LO looks like - lots of the names suggested have some reference to red hair which may be entirely wrong (unless you're a ginger like me!)
F) A long name will be shortened. A short name will be lengthened (know an Ian known as Yanny and his sister known as Lynnie)
G) As someone with an unusual spelling, can I make a plea to give your child a break and give them something easy they and others can pronounce and spell? OK, there is not a lot you can do to predict a child will be able to say their own name (has to be the cruelest to have a speech problem that hinders this) but you can see the difficulties with spelling in advance
H) If you don't want anything too common, check the link to National Stats - our DS has 1st name in top 40/50, second name 90/100 and very unusual third name.
I) Agree it is bloody hard! With DS and this pg, we purposefully went for names with many variables so LO could choose their abbreviated name as they grew up - and likewise a more sober version of it if they run for election or become a bank manager or whatever.
J) Finally our possibles(sorry long post, at 31+6 subject close to my heart!)

I think we are quite set on Maya Rose for girl and Daniel (Danny) for a boy. Any ideas of a middle name that goes with Daniel?

I am due tomorrow so will let you all know what the LO is named.

Daniel George?

I seem to like name combinations with more syllables in the first name and only 1 in the middle name! Having said that think I've settled on Beatrice Amy for my LO due in December.

My ds is Daniel Paul. It took us 4 days to come up with a name after he was born. We narrowed it down to Daniel, David, Micheal and Paul. We picked 2 out of the hat.

UPDATE!!!!

Had a baby girl yesterday (13 Sept) at 2.31am - all well - called her Maya Rose! She is absolutely gorgeous.
