I had a thread a while ago saying we had chosen our names and what were peoples opinions on them - well, e have now totally gone off the names and we are back to square 1.

I need help - desperately! I really want LO to have a name as soon as it's born. I am open to all ideas bar names that a quite modern (such as Taylor/Jordan/Jayden etc - nothing wrong with these names, just not my cup of tea!).

We don't know sex of LO and already have a DD called Grace Elisabeth.

Thanks in advance!

Alexander is always good, don't think you can go wrong there really. I quite like Alistair too.

For girls if you're looking for other ideas, how about Felicia? Also Veronica, Leticia, Constance or Caroline.

By the way Grace is really nice, I like that choice a lot for dd1.

How is Saul pronounced?

helenelisabeth · 02/09/2007 16:46

Nbg - Saul is pronounced like Paul but with an S. The Apostle Paul was originally named Saul. There was a King Saul who was not particularly nice so a lot of very religious people would probably hate it!

DH has just told me he likes Alexander the best. Girls we are still at a total loss! Why is it so hard, there are hundreds of lovely names!

If you like Alexander for a boy then howabout Alexandra for a girl?

aloha · 02/09/2007 19:09

Thinking of names not already on this thread:

For a boy: Adam, David, Elias, Edmund, Felix, Miles

For a girl: Edith, Cecily, Alice, Francesca, Frances, Lucy, Venetia, Ursula, Susannah, Blanche, Aveline

I've decided a while ago that i'm calling my LO Alexander i love how many different nicknames there are for it. If you dont like Alex then theres:
Lex
Xander
Sander
Sawny
Al
Alec
Sandy
Xan
Alick
Lexi
Ultimatly though what you have to remember is how your LO will refer to himself when hes older he wont be able to say a long name at first and he may well shorten whatever name you give him just so he can pronounce it. when i was little i called myself LeLe becuase i couldnt pronounce Leanne. My brother was Dum instead of Adam which isnt really a name you can normally shorten (barr Ad). Maybe you could live with LO for a while before deciding on a name. A friend of mine didnt have a name for her baby till he was 6 months old when she suddenly decided to call him Ciaro. I admit i feel sorry for him when it comes to telling people his name

lovecamping · 02/09/2007 19:18

Girl - Hazel, Rose, Jane
Boy - Callum, Ben, ewan,

claraq · 02/09/2007 20:22

Robyn, Sasha, Saskia, Natalia, Francesca, Maia.

Sorry probably barking completely up the wrong tree but there's a few ideas.

helenelisabeth · 02/09/2007 21:00

What do you think of MAYA ROSE? We have just been looking at Maya Angelou's quotes and I looked more into the name and the more I say it (pronounced May-a) the more I like it. We may have a girl's name! Woohoo!!!

A friend has two sons, Caleb and Reuben - not many of those in the playground!

helenelisabeth · 02/09/2007 21:51

I love Caleb but DH doesn't and Ruben was the name of our first dog and he attacked my dad!

Helenelisabeth,
It's a really hard thing to choose your LOs name isn't it.
No matter what you choose guarantee someone will not like it.
We chose modern names and my Dad hates them. He has nicknames for my 2 boys; Bob and Jack! Their real names are Kian and Kai.
I am due a daughter in 4 weeks time and she will be Chelsea Alana. Dad doesn't like that either!!!He'll probably call her Gertrude or something!!! I also have a Lauren Amy.
Good luck on whatever you decide but don't be put off by other peoples views. Just remember Geri Halliwell called her daughter Bluebell Madonna. Jordan called hers Princess Tiaami and as for Bob Geldofs daughters Fifi Trixabell and Peaches, they don't come much worse!

Tinkjon · 03/09/2007 08:33

Maya Angelou's name is actually pronounced My-a though, not May-a. My daughter is called Maia (pronounced My-a) and if you pick that name then be prepared for everyone to call her Mia I don't think one single person has ever spelled or pronounced it properly (she even gets called Maria!). It doesn't bother me having to correct people, but just be warned in case you think it could bother you. But it's a lovely name
