I had a thread a while ago saying we had chosen our names and what were peoples opinions on them - well, e have now totally gone off the names and we are back to square 1.

I need help - desperately! I really want LO to have a name as soon as it's born. I am open to all ideas bar names that a quite modern (such as Taylor/Jordan/Jayden etc - nothing wrong with these names, just not my cup of tea!).

We don't know sex of LO and already have a DD called Grace Elisabeth.

Thanks in advance!

There are millions of Caitlins about and loads of Rubys. There are also lots of Lydias, but I like that one.

helenelisabeth · 01/09/2007 20:58

SSSandy2 We have had Jude, Saul, Alexander and Finn for boys.

Girls - Claudia, Alana, Esme, Francesca, Elisabeth (gone off this one though as don't want it shortened).

Do you all think I should go with one of the ones I have!?! If so, which one?

I like them all except Alana which just strikes me as naff - I couldn't explain why.

Tickle · 01/09/2007 21:15

like Jude. Also like Ludo for a boy (have a thing for an o at the end )

Quite like Alma for a girl.

KD73 · 01/09/2007 21:18

Lovin'

Boy = Evan Harvy
Girl = Helena or Erika

helenelisabeth · 01/09/2007 21:30

Bluestocking - I kind of agree re Alana.

KD73 love all your choices but Helena is too close to my own name. Evan is fab but does not go with our surname. I love Rowan for a boy but again, does not go with our surname.

Of your list I like Jude for a boy and Claudia/Francesca for a girl.

spudmasher · 01/09/2007 21:38

If I were to have another girl I would call her Ottily.

Tickle - i have a thing for o's at the end too!!

Love Theo, and Leo. Have never thought of Ludo but it's fab.

Other names I like:

Jasper, William, Oliver, Nicholas (Nick) Oscar.

Anna, Gabriella, Laura, Kate.

What about waiting until your baby's born. We had a name for our dd and then when she was born it just didn't suit her at all, and a name just came out of no where!

helenelisabeth · 01/09/2007 21:48

Jojay - Ludo was our cat's name when I was a child! Love Theo - will mention that one to DH - no doubt he will disagree. Oscar, Anna and Gabriella have been mentioned but not agreed on, that's the problem, I have to make sure DH likes the name as well.

If you like names with an o at the end what about Valentino for a boy.......

startouchedtrinity · 01/09/2007 21:50

I love Lowenna for a girl, it is old Cornish and means joy.

I really liked Nicol or Benedict for a boy but dh had none of it. And ds' name does suit him!

helenelisabeth · 01/09/2007 21:51

12lbnaturally - OT but please don't tell me your username means you gave birth to a 12lb baby naturally!?!!!

We will probably end up waiting until we see the baby and then deciding.

My 2nd boy was 12lb 1, and out of the three I had he was definitely the easiest!

sparklygothkat · 01/09/2007 21:53

I am 30 weeks pregnant with a boy and still can't agree on a name either. Have looked through this thread with interest

yogabird · 01/09/2007 21:53

a bit random, but off the top of my head

12lbnaturally · 01/09/2007 21:55

Where my boy goes to pre-school names ending in y or ie are very popular, connie, trinity, milly, lilly, etc

frazzledbutcalm · 01/09/2007 21:56

3andnomore · 02/09/2007 10:34

Jude - don't like at all
Saul- not the nices biblical character , if I remember this correctly (but could well possibly be wrong on this, lol....) , but how about Sol...which means something along Sun...
Alexander- like Alexander, but if you don't like the name to be shortened (as you said about Elisabeth, then it's not a good name, as it will be shortened to Alex), how about Xander?
Finn - love the name, but dh always said somehting about Fish fins , so, spoiled it for us...however, Flynn is just as cool, imo

Claudia- not keen on this for personal reasons, lol...my older sister is called Claudia, and we don't get on, lol
Alana - I really like this name, but prefer it spelled Allannah I know some gorgous little Allannahs/Alanas
Esme - absolutely LOVE this name
Francesca - really like it, but sadly it tends to be shortened to Francie or some such things, which isn't as nice
Elisabeth- this is a pretty classic name, but yes, would be shortenend to Ellie, or Beth or something like that, which would be a shame. ( I also hate this tendency to shorten names, sigh...we really liked Frederic for a Boy, but I would have hated it, when people would call the child Freddy, as I really dislike that name)

mummylittle · 02/09/2007 14:50

Hey ive got a similar situation, dh and I can not agree on anything!!

I love Marcey for a girl - does anyone else?
He loves Frankie!

What do u all prefer?!
xx

After reading this I love Esme!

Nbg · 02/09/2007 14:56

I think dh and I have decided on either Devon or Cole for this baby but we know it is a boy.

toadstool · 02/09/2007 16:00

Boy: Gil, Joshua, Otto, Oscar, Malachi
Girl: Iris, Flora, Anemone, Leonora, Lois.
I like Saul a lot! Know 2 Sauls, both v. nice. It suits a little boy.

shreddies · 02/09/2007 16:04

I love Saul too
But failing that I like Sam, Daniel, Eddie or Ned for boys
And Tess, Frances and Nina for girls
