HCG falling

AnnieA · 01/09/2007 17:27

I just got my 2nd HCG test and it has fallen from 708 to 595. Got to go back in two days for another. They are saying there is no hope that that pregnancy is viable, but we need to see the pattern to see if it is EP or not. If it is falling does that mean i am likely to miscarry even if it is an EP?

I'm devastated after TTC to conceive for 18 months, having a tube removed and going on list for IVF, i thought we had been lucky for once.

I hope everything works out for you Annie, I really don't know much about HCG but I'll send you some positive vibes for your re-test. Let us know how you go.

EdieMcredie · 01/09/2007 19:23

Im afraid this means that yes the pregnancy will not last (I hate using the term 'viable'). If it is ectopic they will need to operate as it can be dangerous if left. They are always careful to check for EP so try not to worry about this.

This will be a hard time for you, I have miscarried and it is awful. Im now 38 weeks pregnant and although it is hard, don't give up. You will get lots of support on here. Take care x

So sorry AnnieA (prays for miracle). My first IVF cycle ended up like this. Please do not give up hope - both my tubes are severely damaged, DH has low sperm count and I had my first DD through IVF and am now 39+1 with second which we conceived naturally (how we have no idea). Never give up hope and I keep my fingers crossed that things work out for you.

Hugs

Thanks for your support. Its just hard when so many people around you seem to find it so easy to conceive. Its particularly bad at the moment as i have two close friends who are pregnant.

Am now getting nervous because i have some discomfort on one side (the side where i still have a tube). Convinced that it is an ectopic, just scared it will rupture.

AnnieA I know exactly how you feel - when we were TTC, my best friend, and 3 SIL's all fell pg, I used to be in tears thinking about how unfair it all was. Look at me now. I'm not saying every cloud has a silver lining as obviously many people do remain childless but as I said before, remain positive and try not to give up hope. I am sure this is what helped me along the way. Maybe think about trying some alternative therapy such as acupuncture.

Please keep us informed as to what happens. I was convinced this pg was an ectopic but luckily it wasn't. Ectopics don't tend always to start with a pain in the side. Shoulder pain etc is a big indicator.

How many weeks should you be?

AnnieA - when I had m/c they too were concerned about EP cos I had taken MAP which had failed (and apparently you are higher risk). Thankfully it wasn't EP but before it was confirmed I was imagining a pain in my side.

I do think the mind can play tricks on you.

Do you have a scan booked?

FuriousGeorge · 01/09/2007 22:03

I'm sorry to hear you are so worried AnnieA.If it is any consolastion,it sounds unlikely to be an ectopic. In an ectopic pregnancy the levels keep rising, but not as fast as they would normally.

I had an ectopic after TTC for 3.5 years.I got pregnant whilst on the waiting list for IVF too. There was a silver lining in my case though.7 weeks later, against all the odds & despite 2 conultants telling me it would never happen,I was pregnant again & had a beautiful dd1,A year later I had dd2.For some reason,I think my first, sadly failed pregnancy, kicked my body into working properly.

I'll keep everything crossed for you.Do you have a scan booked?

AnnieA · 01/09/2007 22:37

Think they will scan after the third HCG test, but I'm only 5 weeks and a few days, and they said they'd have to wait until 6 weeks before the scan because they won't be able to see much until then.

I was classed as high risk because both my tubes are pretty damaged (found by laproscopy) after TTC for 18 months. They took one tube out 6 weeks ago to help my chances of IVF (it had hydrosalphinx). They said the other was probably completely blocked too, so i was surprised to be pregnant, sounds like it might have got stuck in my tube. Guess I'll see how i feel tomorrow and if it is still sore i might phone the hospital for advice. They have been really supportive.

Annie have you bled yet or had any cramps? Seems unusual if you haven't. Especially with you being so early in pg.

lissielou · 02/09/2007 12:45

tbh annie, i would call the hospital now if you are having one-sided pain. shoulder pain only occurs in an ep once the tube has ruptured. i had an ep in feb and left it too long, ignored all the signs because i didnt want to be a nuisance, as a result i lost my tube and very nearly died. dont want to scare you but you HAVE to get this checked out.

ps, i also had one sided pain and backache

FuriousGeorge · 03/09/2007 20:55

How are you AnnieA?

AnnieA · 04/09/2007 20:18

It is an EP. Had my third HCG test yesterday and it has gone down to 440. They gave me a scan and found a mass in my tube that they think is an EP. Because my HCG is going down they are hoping I'll miscarry without the need for the drugs or surgery. Got another HCG test tomorrow and hopefully it will have gone down again. Still no bleeding though.
I've been a bit of a mess since i found out, fine one minute then really upset. Just want it to be over.

Oh Annie I don't know what to say to you. I'm so sorry for you having to deal with this.

FuriousGeorge · 04/09/2007 21:32

Oh annieA,I am so sorry. When you feel up to it,I can reccomend The Ectopc Pregnancy Trusts website. They were a lifeline to me when I had my EP.

Thinking of you

Alfie72 · 04/09/2007 23:19

Thinking of you Annie. Look after yourself.

lissielou · 05/09/2007 09:52

oh annie, im so so sorry. there is a ttc after ep thread on here that i found incredibly helpful after my ep. not just for ttc but just to talk to someone. please take care of yourself x

AnnieA · 12/09/2007 10:46

Thanks for all your messages. It does help hearing from other people who have gone through it - i looked at some of the threads on EP last night. Looking at them makes me realise that some people have been through worse than i have. Was back for my 7th HCG test yesterday and it is only down 15 to 185. Got an appointment with the consultant today because i want to go away for a few days, but they are still insisting i go back every 48 hours. We really need a break from this and a change of scene.

Just caught up with this thread. Please let us know how you get on. I've been there too - twice. My thoughts are with you.

MaureenMLove · 12/09/2007 18:21

How you doin' Annie?

MaureenMLove · 13/09/2007 18:01

I really hope you're OK Annie.

AnnieA · 17/09/2007 19:03

I'm doing okay thanks. The consultant agreed i could go away for a few days, which really helped. Just being somewhere different meant i wasn't thinking about it all the time. He did another HCG test too and it has gone down to 77, so hopefully i don't have to go back to the hospital for too much longer.

Can i ask - how long do you think i should wait before trying again? The hospital haven't suggested i wait and i didn't get the drugs or operation, but i had seem some suggestion on other threads that it was good to wait a month or so anyway, to let all your body recover. I have no idea when i will get a period anyway and my husband is scared to try again in case we have another EP.
