Hello all

Hoping I can get some advice / experiences from you lovely lot.

So basically to cut a long story short, I found out I’m pregnant, no idea of dates and I have a long irregular cycle. In my eagerness I went for a early scan a few days ago. They could see the gestational sac but no yolk sac or embryo. She messaged me about 6wks with a sac size of 1.8mm. Could this be because I’m too early or everything has stretched out further because of my long cycle? Or is it just not going to progress. My first preg test was the 4th of Jan.

Last and final worry. We had intercourse last Saturday and I have been spotting on off since then, with some small stringey clots, can hardly call them clots and the internal scan didn’t help as it was worse after this.

So I’m not holding out much hope. I just don’t know why this bleeding isn’t coming to anything. It seems to completely stop when I lie down and I do get light cramps along with it.

My symptoms are greasy face and face still - ew. Boobs are tender ish but not as sore as they were and I get waves of nausea once or twice in a day.

My gp has referred me to the early pregnancy unit and I’m going to be contacted by them today (hopefully). They think they will refer me for a scan later down the line.

Any words of advice / wisdom would be much appreciated. Sorry for the long ramble.

It's such a hard call, OP. The general wisdom is that brown blood is OK (because its old), red blood is more indicative of miscarriage (and would usually be heavier). All I recommend is really making an effort to stay busy until you can get that scan. Best of luck to you xx

@Annaros987 I didn't want to read and run my lovely... I'm sorry you are experiencing this it's absolutely awful not knowing anything and where you are Thanks

I had an early scan 2 weeks ago and they were able to see just a gestational sac no yolk sac or baby etc... I was only around 4.5 weeks pregnant.

I then went and had my second scan yesterday at 6.5 weeks and they were able to confirm the yolk sac foetal pole and babies little heart beat.

They say by around 6 weeks you should be able to see the yolk sac and foetal pole etc.

But it might be a case that you are too early pregnancy is different for so many woman...

I haven't got an explanation for the bleeding however I have heard it's very common in early pregnancy... did you say they were clot like? Are you having quite bad cramps at times?

I'd keep an eye on the bleeding and cramping if it's gets worse call your EPU back at they should get you in for another scan... I'm so sorry I know how bloody crappy it is and the waiting is torture too!! Thanksxxx

No clots just stringey small bits. I do have some cramps. I just don’t understand why it’s taking so long to advance if it’s a miscarriage. I guess all I can do is hope. The wait is killing me.

Either way I just want to know so I can deal with it. Not knowing is torture and stopping me from being logical.

Thank you for your kind words.

@Annaros987 hi I’m sorry you are having to go through this I know how disheartening it really is. I didn’t have cramps but since about 6 weeks pregnant I have been spotting on and off more on with it lasting around 3 days and then stopping for 2 and then starting again. I had quite a big bright red bleed at 11 weeks and was absolutely distraught however after numerous scans and checks baby is absolutely fine. I am now 4 months and still spotting light pink stringy discharge. I worry and worry but each time I have it checked they say everything is fine and some women experience spotting and some don’t. They said you should be worried with cramps stronger than your period cramps and if bleeding is heavy bright red. If you’re worried go to a&e and have them check you over. I can’t help too much with the early scanning and yolk sac as I haven’t experienced this bug I hope I could help with the spotting. Be strong, rest and think positive! I have stressed out and worried and it doesn’t help or do any good so try and just rest up watch some films and chill out until you can get a scan. Good luck and wishing you a healthy happy pregnant xxx

I bled through all my pregnancies. 1 ended in miscarriage. 1 I had massive gauges of red blood and spotting throughout and she is now 10. 1 I had spotting throughout and she is now 8. Unfortunately I think you will just need to wait and see but I wish you luck.

Gushes not gauges!

So! The saga continues! Tonight I went to the EPAU and they took bloods which I have to go back in 48hrs to be retaken. Also, they said my cervix was closed and I wasn’t ‘actively bleeding’.

Thank you for your replies.
