Nitrites and ketones in urine

I had the midwife yesterday and there's nitrites and ketones in my urine. The samples been sent of for analysis.

Those that have had this what was it? I know it might just be a little uti but I'm jumping straight to GD in my head!

I've had ketones pretty much all the way through (now 38 weeks) - once they Ruled out a uti they went down the route of making sure I was eating and drinking enough (at one point I was a bit dehydrated so make sure you're drinking plenty) but still they persisted so then it was GTT (which was normal), kidney and liver checks (also normal) so I think it was just decided that it seems to be normal for me.

Nitrites are generally a sign of infection so uti is the most likely culprit (are you being treated for that?). If the analysis shows something else or the ketones persist they will investigate that. If you’re worried perhaps give the midwifery team a call and chat to someone

I'm not too worried. The midwife sent the sample away so I should get results next week. My mind just spiralled a little so i wanted to check what had happened to other people!

I had ketones in my urine once and they concluded it was to do with not having eaten or drank enough that day. So, I got told off by OH and since then, touch wood, nothing else has came of it

If it was GD there would be glucose in there too. This is probably a UTI, easily sorted with some antibiotics.

Not to worry!
