I've been awake nearly all night with pains in my stomach - bottom of my bump and everything kept going really hard and right. Kept coming and going - I'd move position and it'd stop for a bit and then start up in that position. It's still happening this morning
I don't want to say anything to DH and him not go to work (he works an hour and a half away) and then it turn out to be Braxton hicks or something. But then equally I'm worried if it is the start then things could develop really quickly (I had a very short labour with dc1 and everything was more like pressure than pain so can't really compare this)) and I'll be stuck alone with everyone at work? But would BH be so constant all night??

BH will normally disappear when you move position. If there's any pattern, and contractions haven't stopped, you could well be in early labour. How many weeks are you? Hope you've decided to speak to your partner before he goes to work, and fingers crossed for you, OP!

Try a warm bath if it's Braxton Hicks that will stop them so midwife's say

Thanks everyone. Seems to have tailed off again this morning so DH went to work but is on standby to leave straight away if necessary.
