Hi all,

Had my 28 week midwife appointment today which has resulted in a glucose test tomorrow at the hospital (I've got a very big bump). Has any one had one of these before and what should I expect ? This is first pregnancy so everything is new to me x

I've had one op. They take blood then take again an hour later I believe after you have a special sweet drink.
Did they tell you not to eat or drunk before the test?

Drink that is! Obvs don't turn up drink 😁

I had one, had to fast from the night before. Went in and had a blood test then the sugary drink then wait two hours for another blood test. I just waited in the waiting room for the two hours so take something to keep you entertained. Dont think they want you doing anything to energetic as that may change how your body reacts to the drink. I felt a bit odd after the drink a tiny but queasy but that soon passed then I was fine. Good luck

I had one last week which was exactly like AprilFernLouise described. I now have a cold that I caught from the time sitting in the waiting room, so my main tip would be: take some alcohol hand gel in case you find yourself needing to clean your hands while you're sitting and waiting!

Mine was slightly different from posters above. Had to fast (no food or fluids) from midnight and arrive at 8am the next day to do the test. I had blood taken then had to drink a super sweet drink they gave within the next 10 mins. Then it was an hour of waiting in reception and another blood test. Then another hour of waiting and a final blood test. I was told if I had gestational diabetes that they would call me by the end of the day and I heard nothing.

All the best for it. Take a book or something to keep you entertained. They also might want you to have a drink and snack before you leave.

Thanks all, yes they've said no food or drink after midnight tonight but I am allowed water in morning to take my anti sickness meds. I've also suffered with HG throughout the pregnancy which is now managed by tablets, although no gaviscon after midnight so hoping heart burn isn't to bad tonight. Told hubby I might set an alarm for just before midnight to take an extra dose of it before the cut off in the hopes that's enough to get me through. Do you think it will be 2 hours there or are we more likely to go 3-4 hours ?

I had mine done last week, the wait was 2 hours exactly and they said if I was late the whole test would have to be repeated.

Like you, my bump measured very large but the glucose test came back negative so you don't necessarily need to worry yet. Good luck!

I was in and out within 2 1/2 hours
