Anyone measured big... and it not be gestational diabetes?

I've had my first fundal height measurement of this pregnancy yesterday (it's my 2nd baby, and I'm just over 25wks), but I measured in at 28cm.

The MW mentioned it could be an indicator for gestational diabetes (albeit she did say not to worry at this point, as I may just have extra fluid). I've never had it before, and can't help but be a little concerned...

I've got a scan booked in 2 weeks anyway as consultant led for prev breech- which should help to see what the situation is... but it's a long time to wait with something playing on your mind :(

So, as the title says, has anyone measured big and it not be gestational diabetes? Thanks :)

Hi! I'm now 33 weeks.
At 30 weeks i was measuring 35 weeks. I had my diabetes test yest which was negative. Also I've had scans since to check extra fluid as they had mentioned this could be why... the scan had shown the fluid levels were normal.

So... I'm just very big this time around lol. X

Hey my baby is 2week old now but I measured 4cm/4 week ahead from 24 weeks and I didn't have GD. He was just a big baby. He was 2 weeks early and was 9lb 13 so dread to think what he would of been full term.. Your mw is correct though it could either be a big baby or could just be fluid. I wouldnt worry about it

Ds always measured ahead, was tested twice for GD as they couldn't believe I didn't have it. He was just a big baby with a big head (takes after his father there!).

Thank you ladies, that's really reassuring!

I'm trying not to worry about it, but did the dreaded 'google' after my appointment (shakes head at self!) lol.

Really appreciate you posting so quickly xx

I've measured big once in both pregnancies so was sent for growth scans. In both instances the baby was measuring fine on the scan, so the large fundal height measurement will just have been down to positioning I guess 🤷‍♀️ in fact, with my second the scan showed reduced fluid (which would normally be picked up by a low fundal height measurement).

Yep I measured big, no gestational diabetes but an 11lb baby Grin

I basically measured full term at 30 weeks. I had to be tested for GD anyway due to my weight pre-pregnancy. That came back negative, i was sent for scans to check the baby size and fluid levels.

All came back normal - baby was born a week early at 7lb 14 and even now at 11 months he's only in the 25th percentile.

I was back in pre-pregnancy clothes within a week (not a brag, I was about 4 stone overweight when I got pregnant). I just mean that I was comparable in size to a small house and there seemed to be no logical explanation for any of it, and once I wasn't pregnant, all the size went too.

I wouldn't panic about it, which I know is easier said than done but just trust the process as it ticks things of the list and then it can be handled however it needs to be handled by the doctors / midwives.

Based on fundal height my pregnant best friend was sent for growth scans for measuring too small and for measuring too big, during the same pregnancy. It’s massively unreliable as a measure.

peachgreen · 29/01/2020 12:15

Yes, me. Had 3 GD tests and they were all totally normal. DD was just big! 10lb 13oz. But I was a big baby and so were my parents and siblings etc (DB was 9lbs 10oz at SIX WEEKS prem!) so I wasn't surprised.

MamaFlintstone · 29/01/2020 12:16

Also I did have GD but never measured big and my daughter was average size. My sister measured huge and had a 10lb-er but no GD.

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling a lot better about it now I've read all of your stories. Fingers crossed for a big baby lol 👶 xx
