Iron tablets

Hi all,

My midwife recommended taking iron tablets which I'm doing but am suffering with constipation as a result! Can anyone recommend a softener which is easy to take, suitable for pregnancy and will result in a normal daily poo rather than a rush to the loo?

Thanks in advance!

I didn't take any softners, but drink plenty of water also using a small stool like the ones kids get for the sink to put your feet on whilst on the toilet as it helps if your in a 'squat' position.

Prune juice! Half a glass of prune juice mixed with half orange juice (for flavour) every morning does the job nicely!

Thank you - I'll give both of those a try Smile

I've been on iron tablets twice a day since Christmas Eve. I've not suffered with constipation. I think it's down to having 2 glasses of fresh orange a day (1when taking each tablet ) and at least 1-2 cups of peppermint tea

Also dried figs seem to help, just take one after dinner and make sure to drink a lot of water. Walking apparently helps too
