I’m 18 weeks pregnant and have what seems to be a large sore lump behind my ear, I am worried that it could something serious I.e toxoplasmosis. Has anyone had anything similar and can put my mind at rest

It’s probably just a slight virus or infection or something or even just a spot or a boil, but if you’re worried about toxoplasmosis in particular, you can request they do a blood test to check for it. I had one done because I was concerned because we have 7 cats and I didn’t know how easy it was or not to catch it. (It came back negative thankfully). The doctor was quite happy to request the blood test given my anxiety so if you still feel worried next week maybe ask for this test, or some more general blood tests. Good luck xx

@Catlover10 hi, thankyou so much for the response it’s really helped with my peace of mind, are your cats house cats or outdoor pets? I’ve been to the doctors today as I’ve been really run down as well as having the swollen gland. I’m so scared of what the results may be and what will happen to my baby if it does come back positive

Most of my cats do go outside apart from 2 kittens, and they have brought in dead birds and things before so they would have had the opportunity to catch toxo I guess. But I don’t know for sure if any of them even have it. That’s good you went to the doctors, did you request the blood test as well? From what I read, even if it does come back positive it doesn’t mean that you will pass it to your baby anyway. And the consultant I saw said it was rare in the UK (I don’t know if you live here?) I’m sure you’ll be fine!!

Yes I do live in the uk, which is a good job by the sounds of things, thankyou so much, I feel a lot more positive, I get blood results tomorrow so fingers crossed
