Hi all,

Thank you in advance for reading. I am so so happy to be pregnant. We had struggled and are so lucky that our 2nd IVF has resulted in this. However the symptoms have completely taken me by surprise and I have no idea if it's normal or not. Can anyone who has suffered from HG indicate whether I have been experiencing it or not? I haven't mentioned to the GP just how bad the sickness has been as I assumed I would be given drugs and am not sure about how safe they are.

First trimester was awful. All day I felt sick and at first I was 'only' sick about 4 X a week. (Loads came up each time and each incident took a good 10 mins) Then it just got worse...most days I would be sick, having 1 or 2 incidents each day but the nausea wouldn't subside. I read on the Internet to keep hydrated, so I did and everytime I vomited I would give it an hour and eat something so not to lose weight. Most of the time I could keep something down. Every now and then I would have a few hours or maybe even the odd day or 2 where I felt okay but didn't dare do anything or make plans. I was averaging at work about 3 days a week (and those 3 days were hell)!

I'm nearly 18 weeks now and things are better. I've stopped vomiting as much but the nausea still comes and goes. Today's a bad day and I've not been at work. When I do wretch there is blood (I have had it checked!) and I've torn something which will heal on its own so I've been told. Is this HG and is it worth mentioning? Or do I just simply have to carry on as I have been as at least the vomiting has reduced? Is there anything anyone recommends? The only thing that I have found when I'm like this is sleeping (so not to feel anything!!) and ginger tea.
