I have been feeling so tired, out of breath just going up the stairs. But as I am 6mths pg, 40, working fulltime with a lively 3.9 year old I thought probably to be expected.

I mentioned it to my midwife and she said my blood count was ok at time of booking but may be anaemic now so took some blood.Anyhow it turns out I am and I have been prescribed some iron tabs,Thing is I have been taking pregnacare for 4 years (this is 3rd pg in that time) and that has 135% of daily rec allowance in it.

So I am a bit worried.Could it be a sign of something else?

Diet has a lot to do with it, but Im sure that some people are just prone to it. Im always anaemic, but Im a veggie, so maybe thats to b expected. However my mum is a total veg freak, she loves it! Eats healthier than anybody I know, and when she goes to donate blood, they always check her for anaemia, and she is borderline! It just shows that you probably cant eat any better than my mum, and she is bordering on aneamia. Some people are prone to it, Im sure. Dont worry about it, but that may be something you want to ask your dr, if some people get it more than others.

hi chocpeanut. i've been anaemic all the way through pg, am now 35 wks, i've been taking 3 iron tablets a day, i also have to take b12 and folic acid to help absorb it, and my levels are not rising, so you prob are still aneamic, the baby's are greedy and just take all of our iron. i also take pregnacare, so i'm getting a lot more than the rda!
