Vitamin D - obliviously taking twice as much as I meant to

I am 11-12 weeks pregnant. While TTC I was taking 10mg Vitamin D and a B-50 complex. When I found out I was pregnant I stopped the B-50 and moved to pregnacare but kept up vitamin D per advice during pregnancy. I've just realised the pregnacare already contains vitamin D so I've been taking twice the amount I intended to! Is too much vitamin d a thing?

Well, I had a Google and I think you're good.

'Taking 60,000 international units (IU) a day of vitamin D for several months has been shown to cause toxicity. This level is many times higher than the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for most adults of 600 IU of vitamin D a day. Doses higher than the RDA are sometimes used to treat medical problems such as vitamin D deficiency, but these are given only under the care of a doctor for a specified time frame. Blood levels should be monitored while someone is taking high doses of vitamin D.'

From this, I'd imagine that you're taking 1,200 IU a day (ish) which is unlikely to cause harm. I wouldn't keep doing it though.

I wouldn’t worry - I take 2,500 iu of VitD a day & have done for several years. I did ask my doc when I first got them & she said it was a good dose & I’ve always had healthy VitD levels. Took it throughout my last pregnancy & this one!

I use this one:

If anything it will have done you good. The amounts of vitamin D in most supplements is very low.

I take 5000 IU daily all winter.

Thank you! That's reassuring!
