What's going on with my cycle after the Mirena Coil fell out...... tell me I'm not PREGNANT!

Hi folks...
Been seeing my lovely new boyfriend for 3 months.

On the 26th July I was having a smear when my Mirena Coil (which has been in place for more than 2 years!!) literally fell out in the Nurses hands!

Extremely unusual. However, this meant it hadn't been working properly as a contraceptive.

She did a test and it was negative. I bled heavily after that for about 8 days. I took this to be my AF.

My cycle was always 30 days long before the mirena coil so I assumed I'd be due my AF around the 25 August.....

Well..... I'm still waiting! I did a test last week, and the week before which were both negative.

I know I could be pregnant, but would my fertility return so quickly after having the coil removed? And if I'm not pregnant, does the coil sometimes screw up your cycle for a few months after removal?

Just looking for some general advice coz I don't know anyone who has had the Mirena Coil removed.

Blimey! No advice but another bump...I'll be interested to hear as I have the mirena coil fitted at the moment.

Take another test. NOW.

And then come and tell us if you're pregnant.

I'm at work.... I'm taking another test tonight. I've been having niggling period pains for 2 weeks now!!! GRRRR.... But I had that with both babies.

First time I had my Mirena out, I was pregnant within three months, although my cycle was fairly regular. Second time, my cycle has been all over the place, anywhere from 21 days to 36 days. The bleeding will probably be from the disruption of the coil coming out, I would have thought. When was your last AF before that?? Or did you not bleed at all whilst you had it - I didn't - bliss! Also, I would have thought that whilst the coil was in situ, the hormones would have been doing what they should do? Once removed, your cycle will start up again to release and egg, but I don't think there would be an egg ready to be fertilised the minute it came out, as your body has been fooled into thinking it is pregnant all this time, surely??

Time will tell I guess...Hope you get the answer you are looking for!

i didnt have a period untill 6 weeks after i had my mirena coil removed.i felt like i had PMT for 3 weeks as well.my cycle went straight back to normal after that first period though,but i only had the mirena in for 3 weeks in the first place.

i have a friend who had the mirena removed after 2.5 years and concieved about 3 weeks later.

do you think you are pregnant?

I SOOOOOO DO NOT want to be pregnant. Me and boyf already have 5 kids between us. We've only been going out for 3 months although we love each other to bits. But it's all so new and we're only just learning about each other.

Ho hum, we haven't exactly been careful all the time so we'd only have ourselves to blame.

I'll do another test tonight and if it's STILL negative I'll accept that I'm not pregnant.

I've got an appointment on Tuesday to have another coil fitted..... Oh the irony if I'm already preggers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

iirc the mirena doesn't stop ovulation, just implantation. so your cycle stays pretty much the same you just don't bleed in the same way.

i tho ught the progesterone in the mirena coil could prevent ovulation in some women?

it does, diva. the copper works by stopping implantation and as a sperm barrier.

the mirena works in those two ways and by sometimes preventing ovulation.
