Transvaginal scan 6w... empty sac???

Posting for a friend as they don’t use MN.

She is 100% sure on dates - only had sex once during cycle and got a clear positive 2 weeks later.

Went for an early private scan at 6 weeks and they found a gestational sac but no yolk sac or foetal Pole.

She’s been rebooked for 2 weeks time as they said her dates may be wrong - she is like I said, 100% sure of her dates.

Has anyone else has a transvaginal scan at 6 weeks where the sac looked empty but everything had ‘caught up’ at a follow up scan 2 weeks later?

If she is 100% sure of her dates and she is 6 weeks along, with a vaginal scan I would expect to see at least a yolk sac and fetal pile of not a heartbeat. It is better for her to get rescanned in a couple of weeks just to make sure, anything is possible x

*foetal pole

The sperm may have taken longer than normal to reach the egg and implanted later than she’d expected so that may give a few extra days leeway, I’ve seen that happening on here several times or something along those lines, so the rescan to confirm will be best.

I'm no expert and don't want to be negative but I had a transvaginal scan where I was dated as 6+1. There was a fetal pole and yolk sac plus we heard the heartbeat.

Is your friend 100% sure when she ovulated? sperm can survive for 5 days or so after intercourse and there's a big difference in what you can see between 5 and 6 weeks. Ive heard of people getting a BFP 8 days after ovulation so it's possible!

She didn’t do OPKs but from knowing her body she was quite sure she ovulated the day / day after intercourse. Perhaps delayed implantation... I don’t know. She used a FIrst Response to test with exactly 2 weeks later and it came up with two solid red lines immediately.

Its still incredibly early. If she wasnt tracking ovulation then theres every chance she might have got it wrong, or the sperm took longer to reach the egg, or the implantation was delayed. There are so many variables.

My best advice would be to wait until 8 weeks or so and get another scan.

This happened to me. They told me my dates might have been wrong but I knew they weren’t. I went back a week later. There was a fetal pole but was measuring smaller than I knew it should. A few days later I started bleeding. 2 weeks after that I had a full miscarriage.

I’ve fed this back and she said the gestational sac was measuring 4 weeks. She can’t have been 2 weeks out?!

I had this and sadly it didn't end in good news.

No it doesn’t look good. Keep us updated as it’s be nice to know that it can happen.

How did your friend get on? I'm in a similar position but slightly worse. Dates say I'm 6+1 but no sac found on my scan today. Back next week but honestly I'm broken I know it's not good
